Proposed Sales Tax Increase to fund Parks and Police

Our community continues to grow, and your parks department is working hard to keep up with the demand for services to meet our growing community’s needs. The X Center opened in 2002 when our community was around 12,500 people and has doubled in size to nearly 25,000 people, according to the 2020 census. This means our facilities are stretched to their limits as we experience record participation in the parks department’s programs and services.

How do we continue to meet the needs of our community and provide the programs and services expected by our community? We expand and grow. Nixa City Council is proposing a measure on the November ballot to provide more funding to the Parks Department and Police Department. This proposal would allow these departments to build more facilities to meet the needs of the community for the next 20 or more years. Imagine Nixa having the facilities to offer more programming for children, adults, and seniors alike. New facilities would allow the parks department to relieve some stress on The X Center by providing a second community center building, this building would allow for more senior programming and classes, adult programming and classes, and expansions to youth programming. Things like more Pickleball, Adult Sports, Senior fitness and enrichment programs would all be possible with more facilities. The current community center is currently operating at a 90% capacity not allowing the department to expand program offerings. The funding and revenues generated through this newly proposed facility would allow the parks department to offer more services, as well as expand more to provide more trails, expand park green spaces, and provide more recreational opportunities that our community desires.

Please visit the following link for a more in depth look at this proposal: Proposed Sales Tax Increase to Fund Police and Parks

We look forward to continuing to grow with our community and develop our parks and recreational activities and this proposal would allow the department to meet that need for the next 20 years or more, while also providing the ability to add more trails and recreational spaces in the community.

Attention: McCauley Park Playground

Please excuse our mess! The park is now open until construction begins again.

The first phase of the McCauley Park playground renovation is complete. The first phase focused on storm water mitigation.

The final phase will be the installation of an inclusive playground. Construction is anticipated to begin mid-October.

We thank you for your patience as we finish this project and look forward to our community's first inclusive playground!
