Hafa Adai Catherine,
Amidst budgets, forecasts, and holiday planning, a number of us are glued to world events and the potential implications on our economy as well as the impacts in the indo-pacific region. Concerns with the rising cost of goods, the escalation of energy prices, and a myriad of other local issues are what we are also very concerned with at the Chamber. Chairman Ed Untalan reported at the October 25th general membership meeting that the executive committee is examining these issues and more and will be sharing thoughts on a way forward with the membership in the next few weeks.
The Chamber's Board Elections are next month. Be on the lookout for the Special Election Report next week that will feature candidates who are seeking to fill eight (8) available seats on the Chamber's 2024 Board. We have a great slate of candidates and we thank all of them for their support of the Guam Chamber! We also would like to thank our hard-working Nominating Committee for their efforts in reaching out to our candidates.
The Armed Forces Committee held its annual Salute to the U.S. Armed Forces on October 26th at the Hotel Nikko Guam. It was a beautiful event against the sunset backdrop of Tumon Bay with great people, delicious island cuisine, and fun entertainment. A good time was had by all! We send our warmest Si Yu'os Ma'ase to our member sponsors for their gracious support of this annual event. We will have a new holiday outreach in support of unaccompanied military personnel in the Marianas during the holidays in cooperation with the Guam USO. Be on the lookout in the coming days for information on how you and your company can help ease the loneliness of our service men and women away from home during the holidays.
This newsletter is full of updates and community events planned over the next few days. We hope that you find this information of value and encourage you to spread the word to help support our community.
We wish you a safe and happy weekend as you celebrate Autumn and Halloween activities over the next few days.
Onward Together,
Catherine Castro
President

How the Government is Making Insurance Inaccessible
One of the most important and consequential financial transactions in American life is the purchase of a home, and key to protecting that investment has been the availability of affordable insurance. Now, though, government price caps are undercutting insurers’ ability to offer risk-based rates and that’s making insurance inaccessible for many Americans. Read More Here

Supernatural Legends of Guam
Hilton Guam Resort & Spa
The Hilton Guam Resort & Spa is proud to unveil its Halloween display, "Supernatural Legends of Guam," a tribute to the island's mystical tales that have been passed down through generations. This display is not only a celebration of the Halloween season but also a deep reverence to the island's unique cultural heritage.
Highlighting the display are several key elements that delve deep into Guam's rich heritage. Central to Guam's mythology is the Nunu or banyan tree, which is believed to house spirits like Duhendes and Taotamo’na. These ancient trees are not only considered sacred but also symbolize the island's spiritual and ancestral connections.
The Taotamo’na, ancestral spirits integral to Chamorro beliefs, are often found associated with banyan trees. They command both respect and fear, prompting locals to express their reverence to avoid any potential misfortune. Another intriguing aspect of the island's folklore is the Duhendes, mischievous dwarf-like spirits known to play tricks, especially on unsuspecting children. Lastly, the chilling tale of the White Lady of Maina stands out. This spectral figure's presence at Fonte Point and her sightings across the bridge continue to captivate people to the present day, adding a haunting dimension to the island's supernatural lore.
The Hilton invites everyone to experience this homage to Guam and its legends. It's more than just a Halloween exhibit, its a journey into the heart of the island's mystical dimension.
