There Will Be No Community Events

As we settle back into school, routines, and the rhythm of cooler days, it’s a wonderful time to remember the power of community. Sharing your Summer stories with a neighbour at school drop-off, having someone push your child on the swing at the playground, and sparking friendly competition on the pickleball court makes Glenora more than just a neighbourhood—it makes it home.

Unfortunately, we will not be hosting any community events in Glenora this year due to a shortage of volunteers on the Events Committee. Without 4–5 additional individuals to help, we are unable to move forward with favourites like the Back to School Movie Night, Winter Carnival, and Picnic in the Park.

These gatherings are an important way for us to connect as neighbours, but they simply cannot happen without your support. If you’re able, please consider joining the Events Committee by emailing our President, Brad Colcy at president@glenoracl.com—your involvement will help keep our community alive.

Remember, many hands make light work, and even a small contribution of your time can make a big difference.

And if there is anything else you think should be included in our newsletters, please let us know at communications@glenoracl.com

Annual General Meeting

Annual General Meeting – November 12

We invite all community members to join us for the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, November 12th, held during our regular monthly Board meeting at the Glenora Community League.

This is an important opportunity to:

  • Hear about upcoming redevelopment plans
  • Get updates from the Civics Committee
  • Share your own interests, ideas, and concerns about life in Glenora

Your voice helps shape our community—please join us and be part of the conversation!

Glenora Gardens Vandalism

We are saddened to share that our garden has experienced ongoing vandalism and theft throughout the summer. Vegetables and fruit have been destroyed, produce stolen, and damage has been caused to our shared resources, including the water tote and security door.

To protect our community garden, video footage will be reviewed in the area. Please be aware that any individual found responsible for vandalism, theft, or damage will be reported to the police and charged as necessary.

Our garden is a place meant to be enjoyed and cared for by everyone. Thank you for helping us keep it safe, thriving, and welcoming for all members.

Just a friendly reminder that while the Glenora Gardens add a lovely touch to our community, the garden boxes are not communal.

Each box is privately reserved for the season, and the fruits and vegetables grown are for the use of the individual who has rented that space.

Please refrain from picking or consuming anything unless the box is yours. Thank you for respecting your neighbours' hard work!

Interested in renting a garden box next season? Reach out to us at gardening@glenoracl.com for more information.

Restrictive Covenent

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first Glenora Restrictive Covenant (Glenora RC) signing on August 26, 2025. We had a fantastic turnout—this momentum is encouraging! We've also heard from many of you who were away but plan to attend one of the upcoming sessions. With that, we are happy to announce two more signing dates in September.

Signing Dates (to take place at the Glenora Community Center):

  • Wednesday, September 10
  • Thursday, September 25

Attached is the final version of the restrictive covenant, which will be legally binding for 75 years. If you’d like to participate, please reply to this email by September 8th, 2025 to register for one of the remaining signing dates (please indicate date preference). To prepare your signing package, our legal team requires the following information:

  • Full property address
  • Full legal names of all individuals on title
  • Legal marital status of all title holders (If a spouse is not listed on title, please include their name. Marital status is required information in order to ensure there is statutory compliance with the Dower Act)
  • Contact email(s)
  • Contact phone number(s)

Once your details are verified, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your scheduled time.

What to Bring on Signing Day

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Registration fee of $150, payable by cheque to “Ogilvie LLP” (e-transfer details available upon request)

Clarifications Based on Community Questions

Why should owners of newer homes sign the RC?

To ensure the RC is enforceable, we need broad participation across the neighborhood—including newer homes. Homeowners of newer homes that sign would be in a position to enforce the covenant should a developer try to breach the RC. Without the newer homes signing on, the ability to enforce the RC will be limited and would make us more vulnerable as an entire community. Signing empowers you to uphold the covenant if a developer attempts to breach it. There is strength in numbers—the more homes that join, the stronger our collective ability to deter unwanted development.

Can I sign after September 25th?

The RC is not in effect until it is registered, therefore we want to register the RC as soon as possible. Unfortunately, once the RC is registered, adding properties becomes a complex and costly process. We aim to register by the end of September, so September 25th is the final opportunity to sign. If you’re unable to attend either date, please reach out—we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Your support is vital to preserving the heritage and character of Glenora for generations to come – thank you in advance.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Warm regards,

The Glenora RC Team

COMMUNITY LEAGUE BUILDING REDEVELOPMENT

Over the last 12 months the Glenora Community League redevelopment committee has shifted their focus from the outdoor space to our community league building.

In the last 12 months we obtained a planning grant from the City of Edmonton and have applied those funds to engaging the services of Andrea Hestvik to help us come up with a concept for redevelopment. Andrea is an architect as well as the Facilities Director at Crestwood community league.

Based on principles gathered from the community, survey and the input gathered we have build a 5-phase plan overview for the building.
