June 2019
Dear Friends,
Although national and global environmental and other news is distressing at times, we are keeping our heads down and focusing on making a difference locally as well as expressing our concerns to state and federal officials. Sitting by the sidelines is not a choice.

How can you help? Visit Issues We Care About and make your voice heard. Lend a hand! It's the summer, and we'll be hosting lots of programs, from our annual Tacony Creek Park Block Parties to monthly Streamside Spruce-Ups to our second annual Jenkintown Creek Project Tour . Sign up to volunteer here . Visit our calendar here.
Looking to do more? Let your employer know about our Partner Alliance . It's a valuable way to support our clean water work while accessing fun networking opportunities for your team. Be sure to take advantage of our special offer: an extra half year of promotion if you join now!

See you soon,
Julie
PS: And try to enjoy life's special moments -- like this wonderful woman giving her dog a lift in one of our reusable Keep It Clean, Protect the Tacony bags at the Olney Recreation Center!
Managing Our Projects
Did you know that TTF manages 20 restoration and GSI sites across our watershed in partnership with landowners? Eleven of these sites are on municipal, school district, or non-profit institutional properties in Abington and Cheltenham; five are in residential yards in Cheltenham; and four are on park, recreation, streets, and non-profit institutional properties in Philadelphia.

We have been a Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) Soak It Up Adoption partner for a number of years, working successfully with the Friends of Vernon Park to care for the rain garden there, installed in 2011. We recently signed on to manage the rain garden at the Cayuga Triangle in Juniata Park, installed by PWD in 2016! This project is located at the lower end of Tacony Creek Park, at the start of the Frankford Creek Greenway. We also manage the rain garden which we installed in 2012 at the Olney Recreation Center , at the top of the park right about the Adams Avenue gateway.

Last spring, we began a partnership with the Scattergood Foundation to provide maintenance for the restoration project funded through a PWD SMIP grant at historic Friends Hospital . Located on the 49-acre conservation easement created by Natural Lands , this site features a pond retrofit, and installation of swales and basins to manage half of the stormwater from this large property, cleaning and slowing it down before it flows into the Tacony Creek.

This spring, we introduced a new monthly volunteer maintenance opportunity, our Streamside Spruce-Ups , held on the third Saturday at a Montgomery County site. A solid group of hard-working volunteers has joined us each month!
How do we get this work done? With help from individuals like you…and from organizations and businesses that lend a hand. Groups from PowerCorps PHL to the National Civilian Community Corps, from AECOM to Astra Zeneca, from Liberty Tree & Landscape Management to Natural Lands Force of Nature volunteer program have enabled us to get this work accomplished. Want to be part of our effort? Complete our Volunteer Sign Up form and we’ll be in touch!

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) wants to hear from you! In order to build an outdoor recreation plan to serve all of PA, DCNR is looking for public input from residents and interest groups through an   online survey .
