No One Ever Fell into Sin by Walking in Love
Think about the above statement for a few minutes. It contains a tremendous revelation for our hearts. We know the Bible teaches us to walk in love, but sadly, many people view it as a performance standard God requires. The truth is the vast majority of Christians today miss the truth in that command. As a result, they live under condemnation, guilt, and shame, feeling they have failed God in not measuring up to His standard of love. The good news is this isn’t a terminal condition. It can be quickly reversed by embracing the truth, instead of a religious lie. Notice carefully what Paul writes to believers in Ephesus.
“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour” (Ephesians 5:1-2).
The love we are to walk in is the love that God has for us. It isn’t about what we can conjure up through our self-discipline. Rather, it is about living, knowing in our hearts we are loved perfectly by our heavenly Father. We cannot give to others what we haven’t received or experienced from God Himself. The love God desires His children to walk in isn’t their love but His love for them. Everything we do that is motivated by His love is an expression of His will in this world. Walking in love is how we keep ourselves in His perfect will 100 percent of the time.
