Dear ECS Families,
On March 13, your building principal communicated our plans for April 8 in celebration of the Solar Eclipse. Since then, ECS received some additional information from the Pennsylvania Department of Education indicating that schools are permitted to exercise flexibility of the day for educational purposes without being penalized.
In connection with ECS’s mission of out-the-door education and the belief that learning can happen anywhere, school will not be in session on Monday, April 8th. ECS believes that events like solar eclipses provide valuable opportunities for our students to engage with and explore science and the natural world, and we highly recommend families take advantage of this out-of-the-world experience.
In the days leading up to the Solar Eclipse, students will still learn about this astronomical event as stated in your principal’s March 13th communication. ECS will send students home with protective glasses to safely view the eclipse with their families.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, your flexibility, and your support of this once-in-a-lifetime educational moment.
Sincerely,
Amanda Cribbs, EdD
Superintendent
