Conservation Display at Farm Show Features No-Till and Cover Crops
The 2022 PA Farm Show will once again be in-person and open to the public on January 8-15 in Harrisburg. And, once again, the No-Till Alliance is assisting with the large (nearly 3000 sq. ft.!) conservation display featuring practices such as no-till and cover crops for both commodity crops and smaller food crop operations.

With the assistance of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, it will also feature the rainfall simulator with demonstrations twice daily. In addition, there will be an appropriately fenced and buffered stream running through part of the display.

Below are pictures of it, just about all set up and ready for opening day. It might be the greenest January cover crop in all of Pennsylvania, thanks to Quality Greenhouses!

If you are at the Farm Show, please stop by the main expo hall and take a look.

Alliance Board members to meet with EPA officials
At their request, the newly appointed EPA Region III director Adam Ortiz and agricultural liaison Kelly Shenk will meet with a number of Alliance board members on January 12. They wish to gain firsthand, a better understanding of what farmers are doing on their operations to protect soil health and water quality — with, or more likely, without regulatory oversight.

This is a great opportunity to “tell our story” to a regulatory agency and express farmer’s opinions on how we might be able to work more cooperatively in the future. Stay tuned for a recap of the meeting.

Agri-Link Investment Program Relaunched
Low-interest loan program supports agriculture best management practices
Treasurer Stacy Garrity, Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, Rep. Rich Irvin, and the chairs of the Senate and House Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committees today announced the relaunch of the Agriculture Linked (Agri-Link) Investment Program. The program offers low-interest loans to Pennsylvania agriculture operations implementing best management practices (BMPs).

They were joined in the announcement by representatives of the agricultural community and the four chairs of the legislative committees with oversight of agricultural issues.

“Giving our farmers access to these affordable loans once again will help sustain agriculture operations in every corner of the Commonwealth,” Garrity said. “Agriculture is one of the biggest drivers of our state’s economy, and this support will allow farmers to implement new and innovative best practices.”

Agri-Link is open to farmers in all 67 counties and offers low-interest loans up to $250,000 with terms no longer than 12 years. More information is available on the Agri-Link page on the Department of Agriculture’s website.
