STRANGELY???-As I began writing today's sermon, the haunting tune of an OLD Beatles song popped in my head:
“WHEN I FIND MYSELF IN TIMES OF TROUBLE MOTHER MARY COMES TO ME..............
SPEAKING WORDS OF WISDOM, LET IT BE.
LET IT BE, LET IT BE
LET IT BE, LET IT BE
WHISPER WORDS OF WISDOM-LET IT BE.”
WOW!! Would it not be wonderful if only the writers words were true!
Life is often hard!!
And often, it is difficult to maintain YOUR vision.
WE find ourselves enveloped in that OLD cliche-
ONE STEP FORWARD AND TWO STEPS BACK!!.
Our Bible declares:
1 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV)
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Or, as quoted in the movie THE GODFATHER:
A beloved friend, (is there anything more beloved than FRIENDS????) called me yesterday and told me he had just read one of my sermons on the internet.
It had to be the one I preach every New Year where I challenge all my congregation to write out their New Year PRAYER.
Hopefully/PRAYERFULLY you heeded my call and did so!!??
We are now almost three months into the New Year--How is that NEW YEAR PRAYER
working out for YOU so far??????
Perhaps, YOU, as myself did, began the New Year with a burst of hopeful enthusiasm??
Man, the sky WAS the limit-WE were gonna make that CHANGE this year!!!!!!!!!!!
Dreams and visions look great on paper but...............................................
Perhaps YOU, like me, did NOT see that tractor trailer coming???? SMILE!!!

As with most things in THIS life there is OPPOSITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE WANT TO QUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me quote from my second most favorite book-THE DISCIPLINES OF LIFE:
“Another handy reason for quitting is just the opposite-we want to quit, not because we think we see something better, but BECAUSE WE SEE NOTHING AT ALL-so why continue?
Why not throw in the sponge???

Very well-what happened?
O, a cloud has settled down and you cannot see?

FOLLOWING FAITHFULLY ON NEVER LEADS ANYONE INTO PERMANENT DARKNESS!!
But for the quitter, all he is likely to get is a stronger habit of quitting and a lower place to begin again.

In short, dear reader-NEVER GIVE UP!!
If you HAVE been PRAYING and believing and feel like giving up........
If YOU have been knocked down or thwarted and perhaps disillusioned by seemingly immovable objects, remember the Children of Israel who SUCCESSFULLY crossed the Red Sea AND the Jordan River.
God plus one is a MAJORITY and our God delights in doing the IMPOSSIBLE!!
