Together we have an opportunity to make a difference for our neighbors and their families at a scary time.

Asylum-seekers come to the United States fleeing danger and seeking safety- and home.

For the first time in US history, asylum seekers are required to pay a $100 filing fee, with an additional $100 every year their case remains pending. There are no waivers. Families now face yet another barrier to safety.

  • We’ve established a Sanctuary Legal Fund to help people navigating the immigration process. Thank you for a terrific response in contributions to match the initial $50,0000 in the Legal Fund.

Local communities across our Diocese have welcomed more than 200 asylum seekers who will need help meeting these new annual fee obligations. And every category of immigration proceeding is subject to new, difficult fees.

  • We have the opportunity to stand up right now with those who are most vulnerable— and create a culture that is generous and caring.

Will you help?

Here’s how your gift can make a direct impact:

  • $100 –  Cover an asylum filing fee
  • $250 –  Cover filing for a child seeking special immigrant authorization (SIJS)
  • $500 – Cover filing for Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
  • $550 –  Cover filing for Employment Authorization
  • $1,000 – Cover ten asylum seekers' annual fees

Every contribution makes a commitment to our neighbors’ safety— and will be 100% matched, so will have double impact.

Your support means that families in our congregations and neighborhoods are not thrown back into danger because of a confusing tangle of fees.

Thank you for your care for our communities and our neighbors.

Grace and peace,

The Rt. Rev. Matthew Heyd

Bishop of New York
