September 16, 2020 | 27th Elul 5780
Greetings!

As I've reflected on this past year, I've seen so many ways our community has persevered through this pandemic with creativity and care. This past Sunday was proof of that as we welcomed our Gesher, Mitzvah Corps, Madrichim in Training, and Chavayah students for an awesome first day of classes. We finished off this great day with a super fun social distanced BESSY Tye Dye outside Beth Emet. I went to bed that night with a huge smile on my face thinking about all the amazing learning and connections we will make in 5781.

I am greatly looking forward to observing the High Holy Days with our youth community. Join us for Rosh Hashanah Teen Tashlich on Saturday, September 19th at 2:30PM at Dempster and Lake Shore hosted by BESSY for 8th - 12th graders. RSVP is required, to do so, please click here.

What is Tashlich? Tashlich is a ritual that offers a way, symbolically, to express not only our desire to be free from sin, but our continuing hope that we will be forgiven for past misdeeds and as an act of T’shuva. It is customary to perform this ritual at a natural body of water, and often people throw pieces of bread into the water to represent sins.

Lastly, please join us for our annual Yom Kippur hang on Monday, September 28th at 1:00 p.m. We will meet up on Zoom to reflect on our year and what is to come. This is open to both 8th graders and high schoolers. Look for the link on the Youth Group Links webpage.

I look forward to seeing you all at these great events!

Sincerely,
Maia Volk
