Dear Noble Families,

Wow. It has been a little more than a year since schools were closed last March due to the emerging pandemic in our world. What a year it has been! I am so proud of our Noble Lions and thankful to all of you for sticking together through what has been a very challenging year for everyone. We have learned to be flexible and patient as we have woven our way through different modes of learning, sometimes not knowing what the next day or week would bring. We have arrived at Spring Break. I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy some time off to refresh and get ready for a great last quarter of the school year.

Please note that the principal's listening session and the Noble PTA meeting scheduled for tonight have been canceled. The next date for the listening session and PTA meeting is Tuesday, April 27.

I’m excited to share that Robbinsdale Area Schools is exploring the option to expand a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) focus to students in 6 through 8 grades. This expanded option would include an arts component - making it a STEAM program. This new option would offer Noble students an extension of the computer science/coding/technology pathway that is currently in place at Noble. Please see the "STEAM Middle School Interest Survey" (Spanish) (Somali) section below for details.

The PTA Butter Braid School Fundraiser begins on March 29. See this flyer for instructions on how to register students and purchase Butter Braids.

Noble has partnered with Every Meal (formerly The Sheridan Story) to ensure students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each day. See information included in the "Every Meal" section below, including how to register for the program.

I wish for everyone a safe, happy and restful week ahead. I look forward to seeing our Noble students back on Tuesday, April 6.

Sincerely,

Principal Michael Rieckenberg

STEAM Middle School Interest Survey
STEAM

The Robbinsdale Area Schools is exploring the option to expand a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) focus to students in 6 through 8 grades. This expanded option would include an arts component - making it a STEAM program. It would be offered at FAIR School Crystal, which currently provides an integrated arts experience for
middle school students.

The new STEAM middle school option would need to be approved by the School Board. The Board discussed expanding this middle school during a special work session on Monday, March 22. The Board could vote on the change as soon as April. We value input from our stakeholders and request that families complete this brief interest survey by Wednesday, March 31.

This new option would offer Noble students an extension of the computer science/coding
/technology pathway. FAIR Crystal has unique facilities which pair well with STEAM - including an Apple Mac computer lab, a television production studio, a dance studio and a dedicated theater space. Our families could choose to look at this new option for their students or go to their attendance-area middle school (Sandburg Middle School). If approved by the Board, this option could begin next school year - with 6th grade starting in the fall, and adding grade 7 and grade 8 over the next two school years. If you’d like to contact the Board, you can send an email to School_Board@rdale.org.

More information will be shared with families as we continue to develop this option.
Computer Science Update
For this rotation of computer science, I have been with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Third graders in Ms. Sundell's class have been learning about binary code and using that knowledge to create some amazing artwork! Fourth and fifth graders in Mrs. Ondich and Ms. Tenquist's classes have been working on the skill of nested loops. They have been practicing this skill on various puzzles and have also created some great pieces of art!

Additional Food Benefits

Families who are eligible for free or reduced meals for the 2020-2021 school year may qualify for the “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” (P-EBT). This gives families the option to purchase food for the days their children are not in school. Applications can be submitted any time throughout the school year. Please note, families who received P-EBT benefits previously are not automatically eligible, and still need to apply.
