Pittsburgh Public Theater Presents "Twelfth Night"

Come one, come all to the Pittsburgh Public Theater's production of Twelfth Night! This modern adaptation of a classic Shakespearian comedy is sure to captivate, entertain, and amuse all audiences.

Ted Pappas, the director of the play, describes Twelfth Night as, "the big winter show and the centerpiece of Pittsburgh Public Theater's season." Set in 1912, "it is played with modern energy. In addition to being funny, it's also moving, grand and beautiful."

Twelfth Night focuses on main characters Viola and Sebastian, who are twins separated by a shipwreck. After the wreck, Sebastian is assumed dead, so, for protection, Viola disguises herself as a man and adopts the name Cesario. Under this guise, Viola is employed as a page for the Duke Orsino. Little does she know, this new job will throw her in the middle of a complicated, confusing love triangle.

Head to O'Reilly Theater, in the heart of the Cultural District to see the show! Twelfth Night runs from January 26 to February 26, 2017.

"Because it is very accessible and understandable, Twelfth Night has great appeal for both young people and veteran theatergoers," says Pappas.

Downtown Dog Park Succeeding

Thanks to the PDCDC, Downtown Pittsburgh has a new place for dogs to play. Near the David Lawrence Convention Center, along the Allegheny River, a new dog park serves as one of the few places in the Golden Triangle for dogs to roam off leash.

Residents have been asking for a dog park in downtown for years. Before this park, there weren't many spaces in downtown where dogs could freely play. Now, these canines have an enclosed green space to play, complete with a waterfront view and even plastic bags for their owners to pick up after them.

It's clear that the PDCDC has filled a void by introducing this dog park. In the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , Mark Belko's article, "Pittsburgh opens dog park Downtown," was the most read and emailed article during its week of publication. It seems residents are just as excited about the park as their dogs soon will be!

While this dog park is mostly meant for smaller dogs, under 30 pounds, in the future the PDCDC hopes to see more dog parks pop up throughout the downtown area, accommodating dogs of all different sizes. This would make the over 400 canines that live in downtown, and their humans, very happy.

The PDCDC hopes that with the development of a dog park, Downtown Pittsburgh will become more dynamic and representative of the residents who live there. The dog days are over for Downtown Pittsburgh...or maybe they are just beginning.

Meet Herky Pollock

When meeting Herky Pollock, there are a few things that are undeniable: his commanding hand shake, his broad smile, and his love for Pittsburgh.

Herky Pollock has been working in real estate for the past thirty years. He is the Executive Vice President Northeast Director of CBRE, with his projects including the development of Market Square Place, Tower 360, the Union Trust building, PPG Place, and much more.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pollock has had one mission since his early days in real estate: "to elevate Pittsburgh's brand." He has always loved this city, and has dedicated his life to ensuring that others see why. Pollock has helped transform Pittsburgh from an industrial hub to a dynamic city. Where once people visited Downtown for the occasional department store hauls, now people are living, eating, working, and playing.

Just a few years ago, Downtown Pittsburgh saw the closure of many of its department stores. While to some cities this would be a death sentence, Pollock says for Pittsburgh, it was a wakeup call.

"Now we are able to have a diversity of product that wasn't possible before."

With more unique products, Downtown not only has revitalized, it has also brought in even more revenue than when the department stores were in their prime. There is more entertainment, retail, office developments, and delicious eats than ever before. The Golden Triangle is a neighborhood buzzing 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, and much Pollock's developments have surely helped make that happen.

In the next five years, Pollock would like to see Downtown continue to progress. What's the best way to do this? "Make Pittsburgh a progressive city," says Pollock.

"We must welcome immigrants. We've always been a melting pot. If we can increase the Hispanic and Asian population, our city will continue to prosper." Pollock says that cities grow when everyone is represented, and Pittsburgh should embrace this change.

In addition to more diversity, Pollock sees an increased millennial population in Downtown. He wants Pittsburgh to be a "vital and vibrant" city that his own children will be happy to move back to.

"I feel very responsible for the development in Downtown Pittsburgh, and I work hard because I want my family, and families like mine, to grow, live, and prosper here."
