This peer-nominated award highlights outstanding front-line teachers of learners at all UCSF teaching sites who might otherwise go unrecognized for the 2025-2026 academic year. Consider nominating an interprofessional teacher who works with learners from two or more professions and creates an environment that enables learners to learn with, from, and about each other to improve collaboration and optimize patient outcomes. Nominations are due by Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Congratulations and a fond farewell to Dr. Maria Wamsley as she retires from UCSF at the end of June. Dr. Wamsley, professor of Clinical Medicine at UCSF, has dedicated her career to advancing medical education, patient care, and interprofessional collaboration over more than three decades. A nationally recognized educator and leader, she has shaped innovative curricula, mentored countless learners and faculty, and led the UCSF Program for Interprofessional Practice and Education (PIPE) since 2018. Her enduring commitment to teaching excellence, health equity, and collaborative practice has left a lasting impression on the UCSF community and the future of healthcare.
Her colleagues deeply appreciate Dr. Wamsley’s leadership, mentorship, and transformative impact on interprofessional education at UCSF. Maria has fostered collaboration and shaped careers. We are grateful for the lasting legacy she leaves behind, and we have a shared commitment to continuing her work.

Congratulations to Madina Tugizova, MD and Natalie Anzures, DPT for the submission of a successful grant application to the PIPE Clinical Opportunities Program! They will use the funding to train PT residents and neuromuscular fellows in A Pilot Program for Interprofessional Learning in the Neuromuscular Multidisciplinary Clinic during the 2026-27 academic year.
The PIPE Interprofessional Clinical Opportunities Grant was created to support individual clinical sites in piloting new interprofessional immersive experiences for learners (students, residents, and fellows) in the health professional programs at UCSF (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy). Selected proposals will receive one-time funding of $10,000.00 to create and pilot a new interprofessional immersive experience.

PIPE is proud to partner with the Academy of Medical Educators to co-sponsor the 2025-2026 Innovations Funding Grantee, Natalie Francis, MD, and her project Cultivating Mentorship Excellence: Developing Competencies for Mentors of Clinician Educators across Health Professions.
The Innovations Funding in Education program is one of the most impactful Academy programs designed to support junior faculty across UCSF to engage in curricular innovation and scholarship.
