Sweet Adelines International Music Educator Awards

Dear Sweet Adelines,

The International Board of Directors welcomes all Sweet Adelines members to submit recommendations for one of three Sweet Adelines International Music Educator Awards. The awards are the National Association for Music Education Educators Award  (NAfME), the European Music Educators’ Association Educator Award (EMEA), or the Canadian Music Educators’ Association Educator Award (CMEA). We frequently hear reports of members who devote time and energy to promoting barbershop style a cappella and the study of music, including the Young Women in Harmony program. If you know an educator who fits the description, consider nominating them so their efforts can be recognized.

The 2020 recipient of the Sweet Adelines International NAfME Award was Melody Hine. Melody sings baritone with the 2018 Rising Star Champions and 2019 Harmony Queens (Harmony, Incorporated) Hot Pursuit quartet and in Sweet Adelines’ Song of Atlanta Chorus. She has been a middle school choral director and piano instructor since 2016, as well as a counselor, Tag Master, and clinician at several youth barbershop festivals and camps. She is also a highly-sought-after barbershop coach and arranger.
Nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the award:

  • Nominee must be a music educator.
  • Nominee must be a member of Sweet Adelines International.
  • Nominee must be a member of NAfME (National Association for Music Education), CMEA (Canadian Music Educators’ Association), or EMEA (European Music Educators’ Association).
  • Through their talent and dedication, the nominee must have made outstanding contributions to the furtherance of music education in public and/or private schools by promoting the barbershop style as an American art form.
  • Nominee may not have been a previous award recipient.

Toledo Ave, Tulsa, OK, USA 74137. You may submit the application via e-mail at education@sweetadelines.com or by fax at 1.918.665.0894. The Board will select the recipients of these prestigious awards at their June 2021 meeting, and awards will be presented in October 2021. Kindly keep in mind that the International Board of Directors make their decisions based solely upon the submitted materials, so please be thorough in your submissions.
