2019 Lowell High Distinguished Alumni Awardees
The Lowell High School Distinguished Alumni Board of Directors is seeking nominations for its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards . Nominations are due Wednesday June 10, 2020 . Presentation of the awards will be held in the Fall at the high school auditorium.

This award will honor individuals who:
  • have attended/graduated from Lowell High at least twenty years ago (2000);
  • distinguished themselves by reaching the highest level of personal and professional accomplishment in their lives;
  • distinguished themselves by possessing the highest standards of integrity and character to reflect and enhance positively the prestige of Lowell High.

Project LEARN is partnering with Elevate New England to host Virtual Career Speaker events for Lowell High students.

The first speaker event engaged 20 high school students and brought together 3 panelists in the trades: Kelly Hobart of Hobart Heating & Air Conditioning, Electrician Journeyman Jose Morales and Rachel Polizzotti of Polizzotti Plumbing & Heating. The second event engaged 19 high school students who heard from healthcare worker Carla Marbelt, Executive Director of the nonprofit African Community Center Gordon Halm, and social worker with the Lowell Community Health Center & LHS Alum '06 Lynne Gallagher.

Our students are learning about how the speakers got into their careers, what challenges they faced, what certifications and trainings are needed, as well as what their most and least favorite parts of their work are.

The next Virtual Career Speaker Series is a law enforcement panel planned for Tuesday May 26th. If you would like to learn more or how you can get involved, contact alumni@projectlearninc.org.
Covid-19 School Supply Fund
After the abrupt closure of school through the end of the school year, many families reported a lack of school supplies to support at-home educational and enriching activities while out of school.

To support Lowell children and families, Project LEARN launched the  COVID-19 Student Supplies Fund  to get resources directly into the hands of Lowell Public School students that need it the most. Funds will be used to purchase the most requested items including:

  • Pencils
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Crayons
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • Bubbles
Nearly 250 school supply kits were distributed to student at the Grab and Go meal sites in early May.

ABOUT US
From mentors, advisors, guest speakers, tutors and more, Lowell High Alumni are valuable resources for current students. The Lowell High Alumni Association, funded in part from the Cummings Foundation, is a collaboration between Project LEARN, the Greater Lowell Community Foundation and the Lowell Public School district.  The mission of the Alumni Association is to help alumni connect with each other, to engage with the school, community and to inspire future generations of LHS students through mentoring, advising and tutoring. We invite alumni to connect and find ways to work on new and existing programs within the schools to better the academics and the lives of all Lowell Public School students.
