2025 Veterans Banner Program

Who Is Eligible for the Veterans Banner Program?

The City of Long Beach is now accepting nominations for the Veterans banner program for the second consecutive year. In 2024, 25 veteran honorees were selected for banners installed on Carson St. between Clark and Bellflower (see above photos). With available funding, up to 60 veterans will be selected for banners to be installed in various locations this summer. The community is encouraged to nominate a veteran, living or deceased, who meets the following requirements:

the Veteran nominee must have served honorably
the Veteran nominee must have a connection to Long Beach

The nominated veteran must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

Born or raised in Long Beach
Currently working or worked in Long Beach
Currently residing or resided in Long Beach
Educated in Long Beach
Formerly stationed or worked at the Long Beach Naval Station or Shipyard, the Long Beach Naval Hospital, or the Long Beach Armory.

Nominations due March 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

The following information is requested in the nomination form:

provide basic details about the nominee's military experience (dates of service, accomplishments, et al.)
identify which eligibility criteria the nominee meets and any other past or present connections to Long Beach, such as involvement with local civic, community, or veterans' organizations
provide a short bio for the nominee, which will go on the website

Submission of a photo along with the nomination form is encouraged but not required. If the nominee is selected, the city will work with them to obtain the photo.

The Long Beach Veterans Commission will review and evaluate the applications to ensure they meet eligibility criteria, and selected honorees will be notified by May 2025. During the review process, all applications will be anonymized to reduce selection bias.
