Last week was a perfect example of what the Nonprofit Center was envisioned to be - a hub of resources and activities where organizations can meet, learn, collaborate, and celebrate.
On Wednesday, we hosted teacher training and a press conference while Amber was leading the second strategic planning session for our resident organizations. That evening was NAMI’s Family to Family class. We welcomed three other nonprofits that week as well. Arundel Community Development Services and Junior League of Annapolis would have been here today if it wasn’t for the snow. It's be so much fun to see so much activity in the building, and NOW we're open until 9pm for meetings. It's just a pilot test, though, to determine if the need exists.
In other news, we've shifted our cohort training to a webinar format to accommodate more people and our conference is just over three weeks away. Have you registered yet? As usual, you’ll find information on a wide range of professional development opportunities, grants, and other resources to help your team and your organizations flourish. Enjoy!

The Nonprofit Center is expanding its hours from February 17th to August 14th. This pilot test will help us determine if the need for meeting space is great enough to add evening hours on a permanent basis.
Resident organizations have access to these spaces year-round and receive priority when scheduling (a benefit of working onsite).
Other nonprofits should review the information on our Meeting & Event Spaces page, then contact NPC staff about availability.

The legacy of grassroots leadership, organizing, and advocacy built during the Civil Rights Era continues to inspire the leaders of today. Prioritizing community-led solutions and systemic equity ensures that those closest to the challenges are driving the solutions. This Black History month we talked with Ratasha Harley and Juanita Banks Whittington, leaders of two organizations that call the NPC home, about challenges, community support and working in Crownsville. | | Legislation Impacting Nonprofits | | | | State Senator Cheryl Kagan introduced Senate Bill 4 (SB0004), the Keeping Charities Nonpartisan Act of 2026. The bill protects the nonpartisan character of Maryland’s charitable nonprofits, even if federal authorities eliminate or undermine the Johnson Amendment, which has protected nonprofits from partisan politics for more than 70 years. | | State Bill (HB656) Mirrors Federal Threats to Nonprofits - click to review an article by the National Council of Nonprofits (NCN). Also, reported today by the NCN, the Office of Personnel Management notified more than 4,400 charitable nonprofits that participate in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) that it will end the program as soon as March 4. Just last year, the CFC raised $66 million for nonprofits. This will be a big hit to nonprofits and NCN encourages organizations to urge their members of Congress to protect the campaign. | | Federal Funding For the Food Bank | | |
Congratulations to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank on receiving $133,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending to purchase a refrigerated box truck.
