Message from the Executive Director

I am very excited to share this month’s Nonprofit News with you. First, I’m thrilled to introduce the new team. They are here for you, and I know you will enjoy working with them. We are rolling out new training programs with our core partners and - drum roll please - officially opening up rooms to host nonprofits’ meetings and events. As always, you’ll find new resources, free webinars, a nonprofit spotlight, and grant opportunities. Be sure to check out the Cade Scholarship for professional development. This month, we also share several new data sources and reports. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, and I hope to see you at an event soon!

Welcome Nonprofit Center Team!

On Monday, our full team met for the first time. Thanks to County Executive Pittman and the County Council, two full-time positions were added in the FY26 budget. We are also a host site for Governor Moore’s Service Year Program. We spent some time team “building” before getting to work. Meet the team and read their full bios online.

Amber Barnett - Professional Development Manager

A traveler, artist, advocate, and educator, Amber looks forward to developing and facilitating engaging learning experiences that enhance knowledge/skills, build learners’ toolkits, and improve outcomes for nonprofit teams.

New Data Sources

Two new data sources, Anne Arundel County's Community Wellbeing Index and CFAAC's Poverty Amidst Plenty are now available. These resources provide nonprofits with the information needed to identify community needs, inform programmatic initiatives, and write strong cases for support. Check out these opportunities to learn about each.

Community Wellbeing Index

Developed by the Office of Equity and Human Rights and ArundelStat, this resource provides data across several indicators and assigns scores for safety, health, prosperity, and access down to census tract levels.

2025 State of the Nonprofit Sector

If you love data, this report from the Nonprofit Finance Fund offers some interesting statistics, especially related to staff well-being. Nearly half of the 2200+ respondents work in nonprofits with budgets less than a $1M so the results represent organizations much like those we work with. Key steps to build a stronger sector are:

  1. Be creative, adaptive, and brave to meet the moment.
  2. Invest in what it takes to do the important mission work
  3. Collaborate as a system
