September 2024

Tis the Season of Communications

September not only ushers in the colorful leaf-peeping and cooler weather of fall (at least in some parts of the state!) but also the ramped up messaging and outreach of year-end initiatives and appeals. These tips can help you be more strategic in your communication efforts throughout the end of the year, which also helps your communications plan for the year ahead.

Now is also a good time to review and update your organization’s profile on public charity sites like GuideStar and Charity Navigator where donors and volunteers do their research.

Member Benefit Bonus: Looking for guidance on your year-end appeal? Center Members can request pro bono consultations with marketing experts for advice on campaigns like this and other communications-related questions.

It’s Still Election Season

Get ready for National Voter Education Week on October 7-11! Each day is dedicated to one step in the voting process with practical steps and tools nonprofits can share to help your community members register to vote, understand their ballot, and locate their polling place. Download the toolkit to plan ways to celebrate and get sample messaging, emails, graphics, social media, flyers, and more.

Shout out to partners from North Carolina who were part of the 5100+ who ‘celebrated democracy’ earlier this week on National Voter Registration Day! Resources continue to be available to get #VoteReady.

Still a little foggy on what nonprofits can and can’t do during an election? Join our webinar tomorrow, September 20, to discuss ways nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers can (legally) engage in campaigns and on ballot measures, and ask your questions about tricky election-year situations.

It’s Not Too Late!

Early birds can still get the worm! We’ve extended early bird registration through Monday, September 23 for the 2024 Conference for NC’s Nonprofits to give you a few extra days to take advantage of the lowest rates.

With Keynote Speaker Amber Melanie Smith talking about burnout among our nonprofit sector and how to reignite our passion, isn’t this the perfect opportunity to take two days away from ‘the office’ to meet nonprofit leaders with similar struggles, hear from speakers with new insights, recharge from the collective energy, and have a little fun? Register now and join us October 22-23 in Research Triangle Park.

Member Benefit Update

Thanks to the organizations who expressed interest in the Center’s new association health plan, especially those who took the extra step of sharing employee census data. Our partners at Marsh McLennan and BlueCross BlueShield of NC are using the aggregated responses to work out health plan and pricing details so we can share enrollment information soon.

In the meantime, listen in on the information session recordings. During our conference next month, reps from Marsh McLennan will be at the Center’s information table so you can stop by to learn more and ask questions.
