August 2024

August Is National Wellness Month

Wellness has become a buzzword – and for good reason. So many reports and data point to the burnout and understaffing that’s challenging our sector. As nonprofits get creative to address these challenges, they include steps to support the wellbeing and work-life balance of their teams. Hear, hear!

We’re looking forward to hearing Amber Melanie Smith this October during our conference keynote as she shares her own burnout story and insights on how to recalibrate – personally and organizationally – to stay in this social impact work and support the sector in bringing in new changemakers and sustaining their passion. You're invited! Amber’s keynote is one of many current nonprofit topics we’ll explore during the conference.

Member Benefit Bonus: This fall, Center Members will have the opportunity to join our new association health plan with options to offer health insurance, among other benefits, to your employees. To help us gauge interest, we're asking Center Members to complete a short survey (which is not an obligation to participate)(thanks to Members who have already responded!). We welcome all nonprofits to learn more and ask questions during one of the virtual information sessions on August 22 or September 5. We’re excited to finally be able to offer this Member benefit!

Engage & Advocate

Nonprofit advocacy: it’s not as daunting as it seems and something every organization can and should do. In essence, it means talking with people – community members, leaders, and legislators among others – about what you do and why it’s important (and it’s within the legal and ethical realm of 501(c)(3) nonprofits). That extends to talking with and engaging potential voters to understand their civic rights and how their actions have important impacts on our communities.

Here are a few ways – from easy to involved – for nonprofits to support voter education and civic engagement.
