3 Things to Remember When Facilitating a Lifecycles Selfie

Each issue we will feature ongoing education. This month we wanted to talk about three things consultants and nonprofit leaders need to remember when facilitating Lifecycles self-assessments.

Consider who needs to be involved to get the best results? Who should be involved? Board & Staff? Just Board? Just some Staff? Who should be involved to get the complete picture? Each assessment and organization is different.
Sometimes no responses is the response. You've hounded the board and staff to complete the selfie or you see that some folks cannot answer the questions. If you have done your job of appropriate reminders and encouraging thoughtful participation then this may be evidence that they have some work to do to get everyone up to speed. Use the the lack of data to help the identify how to proceed and get everyone on the same page.
Whether the organization is aligned or not all points to the start of the work ahead. If they are aligned - great, work to identify next steps. If they are not aligned, ask yourself - and them - what will it take to get alignment?

NLI at Alliance for Nonprofit Management

The NLI team can often be found on various stages teaching about the Lifecycles model. Next month Melanie Mitros, NLI's Chief Operating Officer, will be speaking at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management's annual conference, Grappling With Power: Dismantling and Rebuilding the Shared Principles That Sustain Our Work, October 24-26, 2023 in Indianapolis, IN. She'll be teaching on Building Ecosystems for Organizations: The Lifecycles Approach to Capacity.

Other Partnerships and Speaking Engagements:

NLI just wrapped up facilitating a Virtual Lifecycles Workshop, hosted by AZ Impact for Good. During this interactive workshop, teams assessed capacity imbalances and analyzed growth opportunities. Each organization was then paired with a Lifecycles Consultant to further their organizational capacity development.

If you are attending the NYS Funders Alliance's annual conference, don't miss Jennifer Bonnett, President and CEO of NLI, on Oct. 12 at the session Lifecycles Capacity Continuum from Intake Method to Cohorts. She'll be speaking along with representatives from the Gifford Foundation and REACH CNY on the cohort-based capacity building programs based in the Nonprofit Lifecycles framework.

Access to Online Selfie for Members

NLI members who have completed the Lifecycles 101 (formerly Intro to Lifecycles Consulting) training have access to the online Selfie request forms through your membership portal. Below are the instructions for accessing the trained members Online Selfie request.

Go to: https://nonprofitlifecycles.com/login/
Enter your email address and password
Click on the Courses tab at the top menu or on your dashboard.
Click on the "Members Access to the Online Lifecycles Self Assessment" course
Click on the Online Selfie image to access the request form.
Enter the information, select the additional reporting features you would like and pay, then click submit.
