In 2017, the Steuben County Council on Aging (COA) received a grant from the Steuben County Community Foundation. This grant, combined with funding from the Indiana Department of Transportation, helped upgrade the COA's STAR Transportation system’s software programs and purchased tablets for the drivers. The new software improves their ability to serve clients, shuffling schedules more efficiently and allowing for a greater number of passengers to take advantage of their services. In rural Steuben County, this service is vital for seniors and any other individuals with transportation needs. As the Council on Aging works with Steuben County residents through a wide variety of programs and activities, they offer support, entertainment, and sometimes most importantly, friendship for senior citizens in our community.

Back in September, we wrote about why your nonprofit should consider completing its Guidestar profile. Guidestar compiles nonprofit 990s and other organizational information into an easily searchable database that savvy donors (or prospective donors!) can read in order to learn about your nonprofit. You can take that a step further by answering questions about your programs, goals, and strategies, demonstrating that your nonprofit cares about being transparent and has thought strategically about its impact in the community. As an added bonus, many of the questions on the Guidestar profile are similar to ones that commonly appear on grant applications. By completing your profile, your organization will be a step ahead if you decide to stop by the SCCF office and check out our subscription to Foundation Directory Online - a searchable database with grant information from hundreds of foundations across the country.

Guidestar's 2019 Seal of Transparency is now available, and you can search Foundation Directory at the SCCF office during our office hours or contact us with questions.
Please RSVP no later than April 2. Additionally, you're invited to arrive early for the event to learn about a new opportunity at SCCF to help you search for grants. We'll demo our Foundation Directory Online subscription, which is available at the SCCF office for any local nonprofit to use. The demo will take place from 2:30-3:00.
Psst... Save the date for our May Nonprofit Networking event! Join us at Scoops for an Ice Cream Party on May 29 at 3:30pm. SCCF will pay for the treats, in exchange for great conversations between local nonprofit leaders about your ideas, challenges, current projects, and needs. RSVP here for this informal event with just one agenda item: building connections with other nonprofit leaders.
