We are officially one year away from the 2022 Giving Challenge, happening from noon to noon on April 26-27, 2022. As with each iteration of this 24-hour giving day, the 2022 Giving Challenge - the eighth of its kind - will be a catalyst for connection, collaboration, and coming together to celebrate our region's unique spirit of generosity.

In the coming months, our Giving Challenge Team will share exciting updates about nonprofit registration, trainings and workshops, and - of course - those prize opportunities.

As we approach the 2022 Giving Challenge, we invite you to look back and celebrate the highlights and accomplishments of the 2020 Giving Challenge.

The 2020 Giving Challenge set a new standard for community generosity, raising $19.1 million in just 24 hours. These unrestricted funds benefitted 686 nonprofit organizations during a time of crisis and uncertainty in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health Care Grant Opportunity
Provided by the James Franklin Warnell & Dorothy J. Warnell Fund

Health Care Grants support organizations providing direct health care assistance to individuals. This program is exclusively for services in Sarasota County.

Funding requests for this grant program can range from $10,000 to $50,000. Partial funding of requests may be awarded based on the quality and quantity of applications received.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee including local healthcare experts. Preference will be given to proposals that focus on:

  • Projects that increase access and use of health care services for vulnerable populations, including but not limited to populations of color, immigrants, persons with disabilities, and single mothers.

  • Projects that provide treatment for mental health needs, with a focus on mental health for families and children.

Eligible organizations must have a profile in The Giving Partner that reflects an Approved/Current status by the application deadline.

The application deadline is Friday, May 7 at 11:59 p.m.

Regional Grant Opportunity:
Boca Cares Fund of Boca Royale Golf & County Club
The Boca Royale Golf & Country Club has an established grant program, Boca CARES Fund, which supports nonprofits that offer food, shelter, health care, and social services to children, families, seniors, and veterans in the greater Englewood community.

The Boca CARES Fund is currently accepting grant applications for the 2021 cycle. Use the link below to download the application.

New Resource from Aspen Institute on Navigating the Form 990 E-Filing Process
A new law requiring electronic filing of the Form 990 goes into effect this year, and thousands of nonprofit organizations will be e-filing for the first time.

To help groups navigate the e-filing process, the Aspen Institute’s Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation (PSI) has created an introductory brochure, which you can access by clicking the button below.

Additional Resource: The IRS News Release (December 18, 2020) contains an additional summary of the e-filing requirements. The IRS will be sending an educational letter to organizations that previously filed paper forms to alert them to this change.
