Give 8/28 Returns August 28, 2023

Registration Opens June 19, 2023


The Young, Black, & Giving Back Institute (YBGB) will host their sixth annual Give 8/28 giving day from August 28, 2023, to August 31, 2023. Give 8/28 promotes financial giving for Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits.


Nonprofit registration is currently open. Interested in participating? The Community Foundation of Sarasota County will kickstart the giving with a $250 grant and cover your organization's $25* registration fee. Read about our support of Black-led local nonprofits from the 2022 campaign.


The Community Foundation would also like to convene the participating organizations in a collaborative effort to come together and host a community mixer during the giving day in August. Please complete this brief survey to let us know your intent to participate.

The Florida Nonprofit Alliance commissions an interactive report every year that creates a vibrant picture of the nonprofit sector’s positive economic impact in the State of Florida. Visit the Community Foundation on Thursday, July 20, as staff from the Florida Nonprofit Alliance discuss the data findings for the state and review the economic contributions of nonprofits in our region.

How to Submit & Helpful Guidelines

Testimonials will be submitted through our online portal, CommunityForce. Please note that this is not a grant opportunity. Submitting an impact testimonial does not guarantee that your submission will be published. Our Giving Challenge team will notify you in July 2023 if your impact testimonial was selected. 


The submission deadline is Friday, June 30th at 5:00 p.m.

Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Funds


Sarasota County will receive $201.5 million in Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery to support the long term recovery efforts from Hurricane Ian. Funds are used for restoration of infrastructure and housing, economic revitalization, and mitigation with a focus on assisting low- to moderate- income persons. Funds must also be used to address an unmet need following the disaster.

Our Town Grants



Our Town is the National Endowment for the Art’s (NEA) creative placemaking grants program. Through project-based funding, the program supports activities that integrate arts, culture, and design into local efforts that strengthen communities over the long term. Our Town projects engage a wide range of local stakeholders in efforts to advance local economic, physical, and/or social outcomes in communities.


Grants range from $25,000 to $150,000, with a minimum nonfederal cost share/match equal to the grant amount.
