Give 8/28 Returns August 28, 2021
Supporting Black-Led & Black Benefiting Nonprofits
To culminate the month-long celebration of Black Philanthropy Month, the Young, Black, and Giving Back Institute (YBGBI) is hosting their fourth annual Give 8/28 giving day for Black-led and Black benefiting nonprofits on August 28, 2021.

Last year, more than 470 nonprofits raised more than $250,000 during the 24-hour challenge. Locally, more than 15 nonprofits participated - many for the first time. Read about their success.

To participate in Give 8/28, YBGBI requires that at least 50% of the nonprofit leadership, board AND staff are Black, thereby accurately reflecting the population they serve.

Nonprofit registration is currently open. Interested in participating? Please send us an email at [email protected]. The Community Foundation of Sarasota County is looking to kickstart giving and cover your organization's $25* registration fee.

For more information on Give 8/28 and to register, follow the link below.

*This fee helps the YBGBI cover costs associated with running this event and supports the Give 8/28 initiative.

Enhancements to Profiles in
The Giving Partner

GiveGab, the tech platform behind The Giving Partner, has made some upgrades to the profile pages on the site and will be implementing these changes by the end of June. Based on client feedback, the new profiles are more centered, easier to read, and have improved accessibility.

There is nothing on your end you need to do.

Note: We have been made aware that the cover photo might need to be switched out based on the dimensions of your current photo. The new profiles will work best with an image that is 5MB max and a JPG, JPEG, or PNG file type, with recommended dimensions of 1500x500.

If you run into any technical issues, please reach out to the GiveGab support team through the GG Chat bubble on the bottom right-hand corner of the GiveGab sites or write in to [email protected]
New Resource from Aspen Institute on Navigating
the Form 990 E-Filing Process

A new law requiring electronic filing of the Form 990 goes into effect this year, and thousands of nonprofit organizations will be e-filing for the first time.

To help groups navigate the e-filing process, the Aspen Institute’s Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation (PSI) has created an introductory brochure, which you can access by clicking the button below.

Additional Resource: The IRS News Release (December 18, 2020) contains an additional summary of the e-filing requirements. The IRS will be sending an educational letter to organizations that previously filed paper forms to alert them to this change.
The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service today unveiled an online Non-filer Sign-up tool designed to help eligible families who don’t normally file tax returns register for the monthly Advance Child Tax Credit payments, scheduled to begin July 15.

This tool provides a free and easy way for eligible people who don’t make enough income to have an income tax return-filing obligation to provide the IRS the basic information needed—name, address, and Social Security numbers—to figure and issue their Advance Child Tax Credit payments.

The Non-filer Sign-up tool is for people who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 and who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to register for Economic Impact Payments. Eligible families who already filed or plan to file 2019 or 2020 income tax returns should not use this tool.
