The University of Maryland is now accepting applications from nonprofits interested in working with a group of students on a business consulting project. Applications close on July 7. They provided the information below.

Nonprofits and the social sector more broadly play a crucial role in the lives of many people, but the demands of this sector are challenging. Leaders are often consumed by daily operations and constrained by limited staff. This means that big picture projects that emphasize efficiency, scalability and capacity often get left undone.

That is where Change the World Consulting comes in; a program created and managed by the  Center for Social Value Creation that matches teams of talented under
graduate and graduate students with local nonprofits to help them address business challenges through semester-long consulting projects.

Students of Change the World Consulting have helped more than 250 organizations to date and the results are real. Last year:
  •  100 percent of Change the World clients were interested in doing another consulting engagement with UMD students and 90 percent were able to quickly implement work suggested by the students.
  •  A student consulting team conducted a full brand audit for a local youth development organization, created new marketing materials and helped develop and implement a new marketing strategy.
  •  Another student consulting team worked with an education organization in Kenya to develop a new business model, allowing them to become financially independent and sustainable.
Interested organizations can learn more about the program  here and can find the online application here. Anyone with further questions can reach out to Program Manager, Kirsten Craft directly at kcraft@rhsmith.umd.edu.

Funding Available:

The Public Schools Opportunity Enhancement Grant Program (House Bill 1402), administered by the Maryland State Department of Education, is designed to expand or create an extended day and summer enhancement program, and establish new educational or recreational partnerships with specified entities within several jurisdictions, including Prince George's County.

School based programs and non-profit organizations are invited to submit a proposal by Monday, July 31. For questions related to the grant program, click here
