Summer Happenings
From Ande Masoncup,
Asst. Superintendent of Rec

I can't believe that summer is just around the corner. It seemed like it would never arrive since we didn't have much of a spring! I hope everyone is excited to see some of the new fitness programs over the summer. All of us at NRC want to keep you focused on your journey on better physical and mental health.

June is National Men's Health Month. For all of the men out there, remember to practice good health. Early detection and treatment of disease is very important. Take an active role in your health by visiting the doctor, dentist and optometrist as well as practicing good nutrition habits and exercise.Healthier men live happier, longer lives. On Friday, June 14, NRC will Wear Blue to show our support for men's health.

We will also celebrate Family Health and Fitness Day on June 8. This nationwide event is sponsored by National Recreation and Parks Agency and encourages everyone to "Get Fit". NRC will be participating in the 2019 Family Health and Fitness Challenge at 11am that day by doing one minute of jumping jacks (regular or modified). We invite participants to join us on the tennis courts to complete this challenge. We would also love to receive photos of families exercising together!  Please share those to our Facebook page or email to Ande at [email protected]

NRC is excited to keep our members active throughout the summer. Don't forget to check out all of the new programs happening over the next few months!

  2. Any equipment that you move for your workout routine needs to be put back in its original location after use.

Tracie Weil
NRC Personal Trainer & Group Fitness Instructor

Tracie is a St. Charles resident, a mom of 3 and a former elementary school teacher. She has fulfilled her lifelong passion for fitness as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. Tracie found a love and appreciation for exercise as an adolescent when her fitness journey began with group fitness classes. She is passionate about helping people find a love for fitness, as well as helping people reach personal health goals.

Tracie has specialty certifications in Piyo, dance cardio, P90X live, various MMA/kickboxing formats and TRX suspension training. She enjoys creating class content for strength, cardio and core. Tracie also enjoys cooking, running outdoors, swimming and rollerblading with her family. Several years ago she became a vegetarian and dedicates time to learning about nutrition. Tracie feeds her soul through personal development books and music. Her favorite places to be are on a beach under the sun and of course with her family. Her children are involved in gymnastics, dance and ice skating. A fun fact about Tracie is that she is a former NFL cheerleader who cheered her last game on the Super Bowl field. Her favorite message is "Live, Laugh, Love" and she lives daily with the thought that energy begets energy, keep moving, smile and stay positive.

Keith Guimon
NRC Personal Trainer

During his 20 years in the corporate world, Keith was known as a "People Manager" - a talent that enabled him to help and encourage others. Learning to understand people is important when helping others change and grow. The ability to encourage people to believe that things are possible is a gift, and as a Personal Trainer Keith is able to instruct, encourage and guide his clients. He cannot make his clients do something they don't want to, but he can encourage them. Once they start to show progress, more is possible. Together we can!

Keith has been an avid runner for the past thirty-five years, and has run over 250 races. These include marathons, half marathons, 15K, 10K, 5K and relays. Personal fitness has always been part of his life, and the reason that he received my ACE certification. My area of concentration is running, weight, and functional training. Keith is also the Assistant Track Coach for the Dick Pond Track Club.

Three years ago Keith was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and had open heart surgery. He has the zipper to prove it! Slowly, and with the help of his running community and the "Walk to Run" program, he was able to begin running again. In 2018 he ran three half marathons and more. The point is that he kept going!

Keep Moving!
*Programs are held outside on the St. Charles East High School tennis courts, weather permitting. In the event of rain or if the courts are too wet, programs will be moved inside.

To My Norris Rec Family:

After thirty-three years of teaching classes at 5:30am at NRC, I am moving to Marco Island, Florida. Words cannot express what working with you and the staff has meant to me. I grew up while teaching here. You were there for me when my children were born; when I had my multiple hip replacements, and sadly when my parents died. Your support was unwavering; even on those days of forgetting step combination cues (when Det. Dan Figgins cued for me), microphone mishaps and difficulties with all of that new technology - you know, like iPhones and Spotify! I always told instructors who were new to NRC, "We have the best members and staff!" Almost inevitably the new instructors would later tell me that I was right. You are the best! Thank you for being part of my life and allowing me to be part of yours.  I will miss you.  ~Jane Hansen
