Healthy Tips for a Busy Holiday Season
Plus check out our NEW website!
From Ande Masoncup,
Asst. Superintendent of Rec
It's the Most Wonderful time of the Year! The holiday season is arriving, and with it brings lots of joy, laughter and togetherness. This wonderful season can also bring more stress than usual. We tend to stress about gift giving, party foods, family get togethers and more. During this time, we find that we may be exercising a little less because there is shopping to be done and parties to attend. Exercise helps us cope with stress, so during the holidays, try and make it a priority to fit it in your schedule.
Here are just a few ideas to sneak in your exercise routine during the holiday season:
  • Pack a healthy lunch and take a walk on your break at work instead of going out
  • Start your day early and exercise before work
  • Go for walk in the evening (remember to bundle up!) if you were not able to make it to the fitness center
We are excited to debut our newly-designed's bigger, bolder and better!

 New features include:
  • Home page slider with the most pertinent information you need to know
  • Facility Hours scroller easily accessible on the home page
  • Group Fitness classes organized with a Google calendar to give you the most up-to-date schedule
  • Large visual posts on what's new at Norris
We hope that you find it user-friendly and easy to navigate.

Norris Recreation Center would like to introduce our newest team member, Dan Charak! Dan joins us as our NEW Membership Services Supervisor. He brings several years of health and wellness experience to this position, and his first day was November 9.

Dan has always been an active person, playing a variety of sports including college tennis. It was a serious back injury that motivated him to learn more about health and fitness. Dan graduated from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in Kinesiology. His concentration was Injury Prevention and Corrective Exercise. His passion for educating clients and teaching individuals about health and fitness brought him back to school where he earned his Masters of Arts degree in Physical Education and Health. From personal training, coaching, to teaching, his main concentration has always been to educate his clients to help motivate them for a healthier lifestyle. "Training the body is easy, it's educating and convincing the mind that is the challenge." Dan has an M.A.T. in Physical Education and Health and a B.S. in Kinesiology. He is certified as a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, IHSA Certified Coach and certified with the American Red Cross.
