WRFI News from Around the Country!

It may be the "off-season" for WRFI courses, but things are as busy as ever for us as we plan for next year, visit college campuses, catch up with alumni, and more! This week, we have updates on these fronts from all around the country:

In the North, we catch up with Montana Afoot and Afloat alumnus Catie DeMets, who is now completing her PhD.

In the South, we are gearing up for an incredible course that combines environmental and artistic study: Southwest Climate Studio Art!

In the East and West, we continue our recruiting journeys by visiting schools from Washington State all the way to Vermont and North Carolina.

WRFI Impact Stories

We often hear amazing stories of successes that members of the WRFI community have experienced in their lives. We are so proud of the accomplishments of our alumni and instructors that we wanted to shine a light on their stories and share them with you. So, once each month we will share a WRFI Impact Story here. And, if you know of WRFI alumni or instructors (current or past) whose impact should be shared, let us know! We might create an impact story about them too.

WRFI Takes Things Coast to Coast

Last week, WRFI recruiters traveled to four colleges - University of Washington, St. Lawrence University, The Evergreen State College, and University of Vermont - and got to meet lots of students, catch up with some alumni, and explore each of the beautiful campuses. Our Field Education Coordinator, Jessie, even got to spend an afternoon in "Hogwarts", aka Suzzallo Library, at UW. We are so grateful to the professors who let us join their classes, and the students who stopped by our info sessions!

Finding Common Ground with Prairie Dogs

New Blog Post from Cycle the Rockies Alumnus Wyatt Slack

In our latest blog post, Wyatt shares thoughts about human connection that he developed while on his Cycle the Rockies course this summer. Focusing primarily on the course's visit to Charter Ranch in Billings, he uses lessons taught by Steve Charter's relationship with the prairie dogs on his land to imagine a world in which humans live more harmoniously. Follow the link below to read more!

"I believe that using respect, coupled with some verbal experimentalism, can be a fruitful combo for always building a mutual appreciation of each other."

-Wyatt Slack, CTR '23
