DAR Day at Crossnore Winston-Salem Campus

Save the date: Friday, March 24!

Our current State Regents Project is raising funds to establish a charter school on Crossnore's Winston-Salem Campus. Please come and see the amazing work that Crossnore Communities for Children does in helping children who have experienced abuse or other trauma to reclaim, rebuild, and reimagine the essential belief in a safe, dependable home.

Plans are still in the works. There will be tours of the campus, information regarding student programming, information about the charter school, some on-campus service opportunities, and yes, the Weaving Room will bring merchandise to sell! We are also hoping to arrange for food trucks so you can enjoy lunch on campus.

Please make plans to join the North Carolina Daughters at Crossnore on March 24! More details to follow!

Helen Pouch Classroom Grant

Do you know of a deserving teacher in grades K-12 who could use $500 for their classroom? Please have your chapter consider sponsoring a deserving teacher for the Helen Pouch Classroom Grant!

From February 15 until May 1, chapters are encouraged to endorse one teacher who may benefit from this grant. Even DAR members who are educators may apply!

If a teacher has applied for this grant in the past, they can apply again as we are in a new national administration. Two grants of $500 each will be distributed throughout the state. The deadline to submit applications is May 15.

If you have questions please email me.

DAR Leadership Training Chapter Awards

The Wright administration has set chapter goals for DAR Leadership Training course graduates. Graduates are to be recognized from the 2016 inception of the Member Training Course.

As your chapter strives to meet the challenge to promote leadership training, awards will be given at Continental Congress to acknowledge your chapter’s accomplishments.

Chapter Regents have the sole responsibility to assess and submit the accomplishments of their chapter. Chapter Regents are to email Catherine Bracey, Vice Chair DAR Leadership Training, with the level of accomplishment and the graduates who comprise the recognition level. All submissions are due no later than February 25.

Information about the three-tiered chapter awards can be found on the National committee page here.

State Chaplain's Group Meeting

The NCSDAR Statewide Chaplain's Group meeting will be held on Zoom on the first Tuesday of each month. The February meeting will be on Tuesday, February 7 with a social time from 6:30-7:00 pm and the meeting from 7:00-8:00 pm. The Zoom invitation will be sent to all Chapter Chaplains and past State Chaplains. Past Chapter Chaplains are invited as well.  Each meeting will have two parts: a prayer component and a topics component.

The February meeting will grant fellow chaplains across the state a chance to greet and be in prayer for each other. We will focus on creating a culture of prayer while praying for Presidents Day and George Washington's Prayer for His Country, Birthday Remembrance, and Valentine's Day. We will also share chapter prayers and activities regarding how we best honor the life of a deceased member and support their loved ones. Donna Huneycutt, State Historian, will join us to discuss Patriot's Grave Marking and Member Grace Marking Services.

Please come! It is always a treasure to share, pray and learn together.

Thank You!

The family of Honorary President General Merry Ann Wright has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of sympathy, love, and wonderful memories of Merry Ann that the NC Daughters have sent. As I read through the notes from the many people that she touched, it warms my heart to remember how caring and dynamic she was as a leader of DAR and how wonderful she was to have as a sister.

Thank you so much for all that you have done with food, flowers, cards, thoughts, and prayers to lighten our grief at this time.

In DAR Friendship,

Meg Smith
