Camp Edition 2018
Opportunities in the North Central Region
Heads Up! Hartford
Heads Up! Hartford (June 21-28th) is a week long camp that brings together urban and suburban teens to do volunteer work in the Hartford area and build leadership skills. Based at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT, the teens are grouped in teams of ten which go out every day to serve the community at sites like FoodShare, day care centers, housing for the elderly, food pantries and soup kitchens. The afternoon provides times for relaxation, a game of basketball, crafts, music, or a well-deserved shower and nap. Each evening is highlighted by thought provoking programs that enlighten and entertain.

Due to the late ending of school years, we will be flexible about the arrival date of camp to accommodate finals and graduation. Please let us know ahead of time when you will be able to arrive. More information and all registration material is available at
camp-info where you can register online or complete a paper application. The cost of camp is $425. If a scholarship is needed, we ask that you first approach your parish. If more assistance is required, please contact us at While we do ask that each camper contribute at least $100, confidential assistance is available.

Vacation Bible School at Trinity, Tariffville
What is VBS? If you ask Trinity’s children, many will tell you that Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Trinity is simply the best week of the year!

Kids are dropped off at 9 am in the Church for group worship. They are kept very busy with lots of hands-on, experiential learning activities where they learn about Christ in small groups indoors and out. They make and serve each other a themed snack and then meet up again in the Church for a fun group activity, more singing, worship, and pick-up at 12:15 pm. Our volunteers have been working for the last 4 months to turn Trinity Church into a tropical island complete with huts and beaches. To see what we have done in the past check out our Facebook photo albums or

VBS at Trinity Church is June 25th through June 29th, 9 am to 12:15 pm. Registration is currently open but closes on June 3rd to allow us time to prayerfully choose crews and leaders. The cost for the week at Trinity VBS is $35 and each student receives a Shipwrecked VBS T-shirt. To register a camper or to volunteer please go to

Cuba Youth Mission Experience, July 29 - Aug. 4
For the last two years, our friends at Saint Luke’s, Darien have been engaged in global mission work with the Episcopal Church in Cuba. They’ve managed to develop a wonderful relationship with the Bishop Diocesan, clergy, lay leaders, and youth of The Episcopal Church in Cuba. I was able to see this partnership first-hand last year as I traveled with a group of youth to participate in Cuba’s Diocesan youth camp. A true working of the Spirit.
Once again this summer, youth from Saint Luke’s plan to visit our fellow Episcopalians in Cuba. I’m excited to share with you that this year’s trip has been arranged to include youth from across the Episcopal Church in Connecticut. Our missional pilgrimage to Cuba will take place from Sunday, July 29th to Saturday, August 4th. This trip is open to high school sophomores and incoming seniors. The total cost for this trip is $950 per student with scholarships available on a need basis.
If you're interested in learning more about this opportunity please be in touch with Michael Toy ( and Allison Molkenthin ( or 203.918.1484). I'm also happy to talk with you one-one-one.
As one of the group leaders on this missional pilgrimage, I'm happy to speak with any clergy, youth ministers, and parents. Attached to this email you will see the flyer used at Saint Luke's which outlines some more information.
All the best,
The Rev. Carlos de la Torre

Almighty God,
In the course of this busy life, give us times of refreshment and peace; and grant that we may so use our leisure to rebuild our bodies and renew our minds,
that our spirits may be opened to the goodness of your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
