Construction Update
North Linn Community Members,

I want to provide an update on the progress of our middle school and high school renovation that will take place this summer. Our teachers are preparing to empty their classroom and store all the furniture and books in the middle school gym over the summer. We are planning on having the rooms empty by May 25 and our construction crew will be starting on that day. The plan is for construction to be completed by August 12.

Following is a list of items that will be completed in the renovation.

  • The main focus of the remodel will be to replace the heating units in each classroom. We will run new hot and cold water lines to the new units which will provide heating, dehumidification and cooling to each classroom.
  • In the high school, the two science classrooms and family and consumer science classroom will be renovated to include new cabinetry and flooring.
  • New ceiling tiles and LED lighting will be installed in each classroom and in the hallways. The hallways will be painted and new classroom doors installed.
  • The restrooms in the high school will be remodeled making them ADA compliant. ● We have recently replaced some windows and doors. The remaining windows and doors will be replaced. A new window will be cut into the classrooms allowing more natural light.
  • We will be replacing the roof on the middle school but we are going to wait a few years to complete this project. The roof is still functional for a few years and we want to get as much life from it as possible.

We are going to do the work listed above this summer, except for the roof, and then depending on the budget, make a decision on work to be completed in the summer of 2023. That work could include air conditioning units in the varsity and junior varsity gymnasiums and renovation of the varsity locker rooms.

When we asked the voters for approval of the bond referendum in September of 2021, the North Linn tax levy had been $14.25 for the 2020-2021 school year. We informed the voters that the tax rate would not increase beyond the $14.25 level because previous general obligation bonds from the elementary school were being paid off. The levy amount, which includes the bonds for the construction, has been set for the 2022-2023 at $14.18 so our goal has been met.

I am looking forward to an exciting summer and hope construction goes as planned. I will try to post some photos of the progress. Thanks again for your support of the North Linn School District so this renovation can take place for our students.

Thanks,
Dave Hoeger

Discontinuation of Summer Meals Program
North Linn is not eligible to offer FREE meals this summer. Per USDA guidelines the district must be in an area of high concentration of children in need (50% or more free/reduced price eligible) and we do not meet those requirements. Please contact our school counselors (info below) if your family is struggling with food insecurity and we will put you in touch with local agencies that may be able to help. See the links below that may also be useful.

Hooverville
Students in Mrs. Schulte's 4th grade reading group created a model of a Hooverville after reading articles and researching what a typical town might look like. After construction students wrote cards explaining each element of the Hooverville and why it was included. This model will be used to teach other students about Hooverville during the Great Depression.
