What's Happening at North Linn?

Algebra Students Explore Functions in Ms. Brink's Class

Algebra students in Ms. Brink's class have been collaborating in small groups to solve problems. They work with the same group for an entire unit, and this unit was all about functions. They learned what makes a function, how to use function notation, and what the inputs and outputs of the function would be.

PEERS Group Practices Conversation Skills and Game Etiquette

Our PEERS group the last month worked on starting and joining conversations, exiting conversations, and practicing good sportsmanship. During our good sportsmanship week, students were able to bring their favorite card or board game to share with the class. We then spent two days playing games with each other. Students learned the following rules of being a good sport:

#1. Praise your friend

#2. Play by the rules

#3. Don't be a referee

#4. Don't be a coach

#5. Share and take turns

#6. Don't be competitive

#7. Help and show concern if someone is injured (outdoor sports)

#8. Suggest a change if bored

#9. Don't be a bad winner

#10. Don't be a sore loser

#11. At the end of the game, say "good game"

All students showed great sportsmanship during our games! Check out our photos to see what games they played!

HS Art Students Craft Personalized Ceramic Masks

The HS art students recently finished up a clay unit. They learned about the cultural significance of masks and how various civilizations have incorporated them into rituals and celebrations throughout history. The students then used handbuilding skills to make their own ceramic mask. In doing so it gave students the opportunity to personalize the construction of their mask in ways that conveyed their own unique ideas.
