Welcome North Families,

Back to school transitions are in full swing at North and I’m sure in households across Menomonee Falls.  It was great to see so many students and families at the Back to School Fair.  The mix of excitement and nervousness about the start of school was palpable.  We are so lucky in education to get to experience that excitement at the start of each school year.  An important Back to School event to ensure is on your calendar is North’s Open house which will be August 27th from 1-3pm & 4-6pm ending in our SPIN presentation for 6th grade families in the Auditorium.  This is a great opportunity to drop off supplies, set up lockers, meet teachers, and walk schedules.  We can’t wait to see you there!

8th grade students are given the option to purchase the traditional school issued assignment notebook for $5 or choose a method of assignment tracking that works best for them.

If your student would like the traditional school assignment notebook, sign up on the Google form and your account will be billed $5.

This is optional only for our 8th grade students. 6th & 7th grade students will receive a school issue assignment notebook.

First Day of School

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 2nd. To help our 6th graders adjust to a new school, we will be having them arrive prior to the 7th & 8th graders.

All 6th grade students and 8th grade WEB Leaders will arrive at school by 7:15AM on September 2nd, the same as they would on a normal school day. 7th and 8th graders will arrive at 11:15 am with bus pick-ups running 4 hours later than the typical time.

This transition plan will allow 6th grade students to be welcomed to North and get acclimated to their school day prior to all students arriving.

Here is the schedule for the day following 7th & 8th grade student arrival:

Schedules were emailed home on Tuesday, August 12th.

2025-2026 District Calendar

Locker assignments were emailed home with student schedules on Tuesday, August 12th. We are targeting student lockers to be located near their last class of the day to maximize our transition time to bus dismissal.

Lockers for 6th grade students will

have locks on them. Returning 7th & 8th graders should bring back

their locks from last year.

Replacement locks are $7.

Please remember that students can only use magnets on the lockers as tape damages the paint.

For security purposes, student account passwords are reset every summer. Student passwords were available in Powerschool on August 12th and will be provided to students on the first day of school.

STAR Time

STAR time has been a super successful addition to North’s schedule that started in 2023. STAR time is designed to target student’s literacy and math skill development with three levels of support based upon students needs. Students who are identified as needing a boost in either their literacy skills or math skills are working in small groups with either an ELA or a Math teacher. These students work on skills four days a week and pause on Wednesdays for our school counseling curriculum, Character Strong. We saw great results from this group of students last school year, with our growth rates doubling from fall to the spring.

Students who are identified as needing a more intense intervention in reading or math may be placed in a STAR time to help close those gaps more quickly. As these interventions require increased fidelity and monitoring, students receive their interventions five days a week.  All students who have not been identified as needing an extra boost or an intensive intervention have STAR time with a Social Studies, Science or Elective teacher. These students work on math extension activities on Mondays & Thursdays and ELA extension activities on Tuesdays & Fridays. On Wednesdays these students participate in our school counseling curriculum, Character Strong. Our students who received this support last school year outgrew all other students groups at North.

Additional activities that are scheduled during STAR time include music lessons and small groups facilitated by student services staff working to ensure we are growing students’ habits that support their learning. Families of students identified for participation in these groups will be contacted by our student services staff.

Moving our school counseling curriculum, music lessons and small group work with student services staff to STAR time is a fantastic upgrade from our previous practices which had these activities scheduled during students core classes. If you have any questions about how your student is scheduled for STAR please feel free to reach out to North’s administration or your student’s counselor.

Character Strong

North Middle School adopted the Character Strong curriculum in 2021 as our school counseling curriculum. Character Strong is a research based curriculum that aims to transform school culture and climate by teaching the whole child and promoting positive interactions and relationship skills. Lessons teach social emotional learning and character, side by side.

If you have any additional questions about Character Strong please feel free North’s administration or your student’s counselor.
