Good Afternoon, North Star Families!

We have a lot to celebrate as we head into the final stretch of Quarter 1! Our students have been working hard, building relationships, and settling into the school year, and we appreciate all that our families do to support them along the way.

As we look ahead to the next few weeks, we wanted to share a few reminders and updates.

🗓️ October 16th

No school tomorrow, Friday, October 16th, due to our staff Professional Development Day.

🎃 Halloween Dress-Up - Thursday, October 29th

Students who would like to participate in Halloween dress-up on Thursday are welcome to do so! We want the day to be fun while also making sure our school remains a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • No masks or full-face coverings
  • No weapons or weapon-like props
  • No blood, gore, or graphic makeup
  • No references to drugs, alcohol, or weapons
  • No inflatables or oversized costumes

If you are unsure whether a costume is appropriate for school, please reach out to Mr. Kirt, Mr. Roberts, Mr. Woelffer, or Mrs. Higgins before the 29th. We are happy to help!

📚 Semester 1 Progress Reports

Can you believe we are already approaching the halfway point of Semester 1? With Quarter 1 coming to a close, Semester 1 Progress Reports will be available in PowerSchool on Monday, November 2nd, at the end of the school day.

This is a great opportunity to sit down with your student, celebrate the progress they have made so far, and talk about goals for the remainder of the semester.

If you haven't already, take a few minutes to log into your Parent Portal in PowerSchool. It is a great resource for staying connected to your child's grades, assignments, and overall academic progress throughout the school year.

🏫 Representing North in Our Community

As we head into the long weekend, we also want to remind our students that being a North Star extends beyond the walls of our school.

Many of our students enjoy visiting local businesses before or after school. We are fortunate to have wonderful community partners who welcome our students, and we want to make sure we continue to build those positive relationships.

When visiting local businesses, we ask our students to:

  • Make a purchase if they plan to stay.
  • Be respectful of staff, customers, and other students.
  • Keep voices and activity at an appropriate level.
  • Walk rather than run and avoid disruptive behavior.
  • Treat the business and its property with care.

These expectations are simple, but they make a big difference. Our students are often recognized in the community as North Middle School students, and we want them to feel proud of the way they represent our school.

Thank you for reinforcing these expectations at home and for continuing to partner with us. We are incredibly proud of our North Stars and the many ways they contribute positively to our school and community.

Have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thank you for your continued support of North Middle School!

Warmly,

Kristin Higgins

Red Ribbon Week: Be a Hero! 🦸

During Red Ribbon Week, we encourage our students to Be a Hero by making healthy, positive choices! Being a hero means taking care of yourself, standing up for what is right, making safe decisions, and having the courage to say no to drugs and other harmful substances. Every day, our students have opportunities to be heroes by making choices that support their health, goals, and future. Together, let's celebrate the power of making good choices and encourage our students to be heroes in their school, families, and community!
