All red, as south you are declarer and hold A965 AQ874 3 763. The bidding goes:
P - P - 1D - P
1H - P - 2D - P
??
In the auction shown above would 3C by south be extended New Minor?
John Dickenson. I would not play it as such since I am a passed hand. Most who play extended NMF agree that 1C-1M-2C-2D is invitational plus, like NMF over 1N rebid. But 1D-1M-2D-3C is a GF. I can't see how a passed hand opposite a third seat opener can force to game.
Bill Bauer. I will bid 2S following the late Bill Mumbauer's advice which he freely shared. He said after passing, you could bid as much as you want! Yes, 3C would be extended NMF.
John Dickenson. I would pass and hope for a plus. Partner has denied 4 spades when he bypassed a 1S bid over my 1H. This hand is a misfit. Best to get out at a low level.
Elaine Clair. I would not play that 3C as new minor forcing. I would consider that a forcing bid….at least for one round since you’re a passed hand.
Dennis O’Brien. Assuming partner has 6 diamonds, he can’ t have more than three spades. Worst case he has 3S so 4 cards in clubs and hearts. If he had 3H and a stiff club he might have bid 2H. So I will bid 2H expecting partner to bid 3D with a stiff heart.
