Part 2 of Last Week’s Question
These are the hands that North and South actually had for the auction. How would you bid these hands assuming West bids clubs at every opportunity up to and including 3 clubs?
North: K72 92 AKQJ64 87
South: 954 AKQ1074 972 A
John Dickenson. 100% of blame to South. South has an easy bid of 4H after the delayed raise and could have jumped to 3H over 2D. Only South knows about the double fit.
Bill Bauer. My auction: 1C - 1D - P - 2C
-----3C - 4D - P- 4H
N-S have game values, so South cuebids 2C to show a good hand either in diamonds or a suit of South's own. North jumps to 4D to show opening values. 4H shows a very good heart suit.
Elaine Clair. With the south hand I would either jump to 3H or bid 3C which is forcing for my second bid. Once partner raises hearts, 4H should be automatic. South has a self sufficient suit, a fit with partner and a single Ace of opponent's suit. The one who knows has to go.
Dennis O’Brien. South's second bid should be 3H. For someone aggressive, like me, even 4H. Hand evaluation! South has a suit she should be willing to play opposite a singleton, a fit with partner and no club losers.
Mitch Snyder. South has to make a stronger bid in the second round. 3H is not forcing and could miss game. 4H might work or 3C planning to bid 3H over 3D. Additionally, North should consider 3D as a second bid before settling for 2D.
