Dear North Penn Community,
The school year has come and gone in a blur! It seems just yesterday I was writing my first E-Matters letter and welcoming our students and staff back to our schools. And now here I am thanking everyone for a great school year. As we wrap up my first school year as superintendent, we must thank everyone who has aided in this transition and has continued to shine as we meet every challenge as a team.
It finally feels as though we have put the challenges of the last three years behind us and are focused on moving forward and making up for lost time. Just last week we received preliminary state testing results and I am pleased that you will see many improvements and areas of accomplishment. We hope to share finalized information in the early fall. We would be remiss to not thank the incredible staff members who have worked so hard to help our students overcome obstacles and thrive as both learners and individuals.
Of course there are challenges ahead. The social emotional health of our students and staff is of the utmost importance and we will continue to focus on solutions and programs to address those needs. Our facilities, in particular North Penn High School, are in need of upgrades and renovations. And as you all probably know, a major focus of the next several months will be planning for a referendum for the re-imagining of North Penn High School. Our proverbial plates are full.
As your superintendent, I will continue to lead this great school district by doing what is best for students, not only today but for generations to come. After spending my first year on the job diving deeper into this community’s expectations, I believe you all want the same as I do.
NPSD has long been known as a power house when it comes to the education that we provide. We are proud of the people who make this community what it is- our staff, students, families and community. We have amongst us all that is needed to exceed all expectations. Thank you for your part in our success.

Behind the Scenes: Facilities and Operations
The Facilities and Operations Department consists of 130 employees ranging in responsibilities from maintenance, grounds, custodians, supervisory and support staff. The maintenance staff are responsible for the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of all building systems including the building envelope and interior, boilers, chillers, fire alarms, security, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. The grounds staff are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all athletic fields, building grounds, playgrounds, trees and shrubs, and snow removal. The custodial staff are responsible for daily upkeep and cleaning of all buildings, general maintenance, safety, event setups, close building grounds maintenance and sidewalk snow removal. | | The Facilities and Operations Department is also responsible for the planning, execution, design interface and coordination of construction projects. Currently the Facilities & Operations department is working with Schrader Group Architecture in development of the High School renovation project. As the planning phase of the renovation project begins, the department will be integral in helping determine the best course of action, as well as keeping existing facilities in check as renovations and construction begin.
The North Penn Facilities and Operations Department is dedicated to providing a clean, healthy and well-maintained learning environment for every student and staff member entering our buildings. The department is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, repair, and operation of the District’s 21 buildings consisting of over 2,050,000 square feet situated on 500 acres. Our department manages construction and renovation, maintenance, grounds, cleaning, energy management and procurement, and all facility related compliance requirements. | | One of the most important actions of the department is being responsible for Federal, State and Local compliance and inspection requirements such as; US EPA’s AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act), Right to Know (MSDS and SDS), IPM (Integrated Pest Management), UST compliance (Underground Storage Tank), PA DEP Clean Air Operating Permits, US EPA RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting), PA DEP Regulated Dam Compliance, PA L&I elevator and wheelchair lift inspections, PA L&I boiler and pressure vessel compliance, annual fire system inspections (sprinklers, extinguishers, kitchen systems, and fire alarm compliance), Act 39 Lead in Drinking Water, annual manlift and forklift inspections and annual Fire Marshal inspections of all buildings. Being fully compliant with these requirements ensures the facilities remain safe for all students and staff. As both a department and district, we take great pride in knowing our facilities meet all the standards of a safe and welcoming environment for our students and staff.

Identity- The lens through which we see ourselves and the world views us
Race - Ethnicity - Gender - Language - Learner Variability - Socioeconomic Class - Age - Sexual Orientation - Physical & Mental Ability - Religion
Summer provides an opportunity to provide time for families to engage in activities that serve as a window into the identities, experiences, and motivations of others. Over the next eight weeks, consider:
Learning a New Language
Read diverse books and watch diverse media together. Books can transcend the environment we're in, thus opening new perspectives to their readers. Start a book club with friends!
Try New Food
- Visit local ethnic restaurants- the North Penn community has many wonderful restaurants that will encourage you to try a new genre of food.
- Create a meal plan for lunch or a dinner party featuring one particular cuisine or a different cuisine for each course. Make invitations and menus that celebrate the diversity of food around the world.
Spend time visiting museums that highlight the history and culture of the respective ethnic groups in the Philadelphia area.
Attend a Cultural Festival
- Philadelphia has a plethora of cultural festivals to choose from, including the Chinese Lantern Festival, Ukrainian Folk Festival and South Jersey's Caribbean celebrations
Give the Family Movie Night a New Twist
- Check out a movie or two that highlights the experiences of cultural and ethnic groups that you are not familiar with.

We need your help. Every school district across the state is experiencing a shortage of substitute teachers, which can impact student learning. If you have a four-year degree and enjoy working with children and teens, you can help us by joining the North Penn School District as a substitute teacher!
In addition to paying the highest rate in the county (starting at $180 per day; $170/day for guest teachers), we also provide great flexibility regarding daily assignments. You can share your availability and work as it fits your schedule. We will also provide training!
