TxDOT Adding Medians to Davis Boulevard

Construction is expected to start this month on TxDOT’s raised median project on Davis Boulevard (FM 1938). Aimed at reducing crash rates as traffic volume on the thoroughfare continues to rise, the state project will convert the two-way left-turn lane into a 14-foot-wide raised median, with left-turn lanes at median breaks.

We've been informed that TxDOT's contractor will begin at the north end of the project in Southlake, then move south through Keller and into North Richland Hills, from Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709) to Emerald Hills Way. Drivers should anticipate intermittent interior-lane closures as this project progresses. Construction is estimated to continue through June 2027. To help keep everyone safe, please slow down and watch for workers on Davis Boulevard.

Questions or concerns about this project may be directed to the TxDOT Fort Worth District Office at 817-370-6500 or via TxDOT's website.

City Council Meeting Highlights

Following are highlights from the March 9, 2026, City Council Meeting and Sign Review Board Meeting. Please visit our public meeting portal to view the meeting agendas and videos.

Special Use Permit

The City Council approved a special use permit for 5113 Commercial Drive. This will allow MavTel Global to use the existing building for office, warehouse, manufacturing, and assembly operations. The company, which manufactures custom cable assemblies and wire harnesses, is relocating from Plano to a larger facility in North Richland Hills.

Playground Replacement

The City Council awarded a contract to Whirlix, Inc. to replace the playground equipment at JB Sandlin Park. The existing playground, installed in 2001, can no longer be repaired because replacement parts are unavailable. Manufacture, delivery, and installation of the new equipment will be completed within 70 calendar days after the notice to proceed.

Sign Variance Request

A request for new monument signs on Boulevard 26 at the entrances to Tarrant County College Northeast Campus was denied. The proposed signs exceeded the maximum height of 7 feet tall, with one of them measuring 17 feet tall.

The next City Council Meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026.

Pedestrian Safety Improvements Underway

A Safe Routes to School project has begun around Smithfield Middle School. Funded primarily through a federal grant, this project will enhance pedestrian safety within a half-mile radius of the campus. Improvements include new sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, crosswalk striping, and updated signage at multiple locations. A new bicycle parking area will also be added on campus.

The contractor, C. Green Scaping, is starting work on the east side of the project at Crane Road and will move westward. Work closest to the school will take place after summer break begins. The project is expected to take about five months to complete.
