City Council Approves Lower Property Tax Rate, Budget Reduction

At their meeting this week, the NRH City Council reduced the property tax rate by 10.7% to $0.489389 per $100 property valuation and reduced the annual budget for FY 2023-24 from what was initially proposed. For the average NRH homeowner, this will reduce the city portion of your annual property tax bill by about $24. You can visit www.tarranttaxinfo.com to see how your 2023 tax bill from the city compares to last year’s tax bill.

Previously, the City Council had discussed a 9.09% cut to the tax rate, which would have kept most property tax bills the same as last year. Following the public input period, the City Council voted to bring the rate down an additional 1.6% to reach the No New Revenue Rate. This resulted in the FY 2023-24 budget being reduced by about $630,000. Watch the City Council Meeting video at www.nrhtx.com/agendas

This is the second year in a row the City has provided property tax relief. Last year, the City Council increased the homestead exemption to 20% and cut the tax rate by 4.2%, which lowered property tax bills for most NRH residents.

As a reminder, if you benefit from the senior/disabled tax freeze, your bill is recalculated each year at the current rate and compared to the amount you were billed in the year your taxes were frozen. You are billed the lower of the two. If you don’t recall what you previously paid in taxes, you can look up your tax payment history on the Tarrant County Tax Office's website.

Part of Iron Horse Boulevard Now One-Way

Traffic on Iron Horse Boulevard is now westbound only between Rufe Snow Drive and York Street due to construction. The eastbound lane is closed, allowing contractors to conduct paving operations while providing better safety for workers and motorists. Eastbound motorists must use an alternate route such as Mid Cities Boulevard.

The paving work is estimated to take 6 to 7 months to complete. Please slow down and watch for workers if you are in this area. Text Ironhorse to 888777 to receive lane closure and construction updates via text message.

Iron Horse Boulevard is one of 27 streets being reconstructed through the 2020 Street Bond Program.
