Annual City Budget, Tax Rate Adopted

At their meeting this week, the NRH City Council approved the annual city budget for FY 2022-23 and adopted a property tax rate of $0.547972 per $100 property valuation. That’s a 2.4 cent reduction from the previous tax rate. The new rate, coupled with the 20% homestead exemption approved earlier in the year, means most NRH homeowners will see a reduction in the city portion of their property tax bill.

For the average NRH home with a taxable value of $233,679, the city tax bill will be $1,280.50 this year, which is equivalent to $106.71 per month. The city's property tax is about 25% of your overall tax bill. About half of your total tax bill goes to the school district and the remainder to county entities. You can view a breakdown of your property taxes at www.tarranttaxinfo.com.

The City’s budget for FY 2022-23 budget is balanced and provides funding to continue the services residents depend on every day including police, fire and emergency medical services, street, drainage and utility infrastructure, animal control, code compliance, building and health inspections, library services, parks and recreation and more.

Priorities for the coming year include street and drainage improvements, code compliance, keeping pace with growth and increased service demands, technology advancements, and making sure the city remains competitive in recruiting and retaining city employees. Inflationary increases for the fuel, materials and supplies needed for city operations is also included in the budget.

New K9 Joins NRHPD

Luka "Dogcic," a one-year-old Belgian Malinois from Holland, has joined the North Richland Hills Police Department. He is the third K9 to work for NRHPD, replacing Breta who retired in 2021 after 9 years of service. Much of the cost to bring Luka onboard was covered by a generous donor.

Officer Matt Boyd recently spent six weeks training with Luca in the Texas Hill Country. The extensive training program focused on both narcotic detection and patrol functions. Luka's first shift with the department resulted in the successful apprehension of a fleeing suspect who was found in the trunk of a vehicle.

If you're wondering about Luka's name, it's a nod to Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. Officer Boyd is a big fan!
