Phone Scam Impersonating NRHPD

We've been made aware of a phone scam that is circulating in our community, where an individual is using a spoofed number that shows an NRH Police Department phone number. The individual is identifying themselves as an officer with the department. The person then gives different scenarios that end with asking for the victim's financial information. NRH Police will not call and ask for your financial information! If you get any call like this - do NOT provide it!

The Police Department is currently investigating the calls, but wanted to make the public aware. If you have received one of these calls, please let the department know by calling criminal investigations at 817-427-7030.

City Council Election

The City Council approved a resolution calling the May 4, 2024 General Election. The positions of Mayor and Council Places 2, 4 and 6 will be on the ballot. The City Secretary’s Office is accepting candidate applications through Feb. 16. Applications for a ballot by mail for qualified voters will be accepted via mail through April 23 at the Tarrant County Elections Office, PO Box 961011, Fort Worth, TX 76161-0011. Early voting by personal appearance will take place April 22 – 30. More information can be found on our elections webpage. If you have questions, please contact the City Secretary’s Office at 817-427-6060.

Zoning Code Updates

The City Council approved an update to the zoning code to create a new category for Residential Estate zoning. This amendment renamed the zoning category for residential lots 1-acre and larger from R-1-S (Special Single Family) to RE-1 (Residential Estate 1). An RE-2 (Residential Estate 2) district was also established for half-acre lots. This gives property owners another option when considering a zoning change. The Residential Estate zoning was first proposed during the development of the Vision 2030 Strategic Plan and discussed again in October during Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council work sessions.

Contracts

Street Project: A contract was awarded to Multatech Engineering, Inc., for engineering design services for the North Richland Boulevard project. This project will reconstruct North Richland Boulevard between Holiday Lane and Davis Boulevard. Following completion of the engineering design work, a construction contract is expected to be awarded in Spring 2025. This project is part of the 2020 Street Bond Program

Sanitary Sewer Project: The City Council recommended the award of a construction contract by Tarrant County to Texas Pride Utilities, LLC, for the Sheridon Drive and Garwood Drive sanitary sewer improvement project. This project will replace 1,672 linear feet of sanitary sewer main in the far southwest portion of the city. This project is funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program, which is administered by Tarrant County. Construction is anticipated to begin this spring and take 60 calendar days to complete.

Truck Route Designations

During their work session, the City Council discussed updating North Richland Hills’ truck routes. Staff will draft an ordinance for the City Council to consider at a future meeting.

Landscape Variance

The City Council also convened as the Landscape Review Board and approved a variance request for a new commercial development at 8633 Davis Boulevard. The property is located between Wild Fork Foods and Dutch Bros. The variance allows for the landscape buffer area on the back side of the property to be consistent with the neighboring commercial properties.
