NRH City Council Holiday Greeting
City of NRH Holiday Schedules
North Richland Hills City Hall and other non-emergency city services will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The NRH Centre will be closed Dec. 24 and 25. The NRH Centre will be open from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

Since there are no collections on Wednesday, there are no changes to your garbage and recycling schedules for the holidays. Residential garbage and recycling collections will be made on your normally scheduled days during the next two weeks.

Reminder from NRHPD: Plan a Sober Ride Home
The North Richland Hills Police Department wants to remind everyone that if you go out to celebrate the holidays, don't drink and drive. Phone a friend, or a ride, but don't get behind the wheel. There are many ride options available - Uber, Lyft, a cab or a designated driver. This year, make sure to help keep the roads our families travel on safe by making the right choice.
Holiday Recycling Tips
Americans throw away more trash during the holiday season than any other time of year. The good news is much of it can be recycled! Please follow these tips from Republic Waste Services when recycling this holiday season:

  • Cardboard boxes should be flattened and placed in your recycle cart. Cut larger boxes into smaller pieces so they fit loosely inside the cart. Overstuffed carts may not empty completely. Boxes left next to recycle carts will be collected with trash and won’t be recycled.
  • Most wrapping paper is recyclable, except for paper with foil or glitter. Ribbons and bows cannot be recycled.
  • Tissue paper cannot be recycled.
  • Greeting cards are recyclable, as long as they do not contain foil or glitter or other decorations.
  • Christmas lights and decorations that are broken should be placed in the regular garbage.
  • Artificial trees and wreaths are not recyclable.

Visit recyclingsimplified.com for more tips. Contact Republic Waste Services at 817-317-2450 with any questions.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Don’t throw away your Christmas tree when the holidays end. Give it another life by recycling it into mulch. The City of North Richland Hills and Republic Waste Services are offering a Christmas tree recycling program for residents starting December 26, 2019. In order for trees to be recycled, they should be free of tinsel, ornaments, bags, plastic and stands. This program is for live Christmas trees only. Flocked trees are not accepted for mulching, but can be placed at your curb for regular trash collection. Artificial Christmas trees and wreaths are not recyclable.

Drop Off: Christmas trees can be dropped off Dec. 26, 2019 through Jan. 5, 2020 at Green Valley Park at 7701 Smithfield Road or at the parking lot of the Dan Echols Center at 6801 Glenview Drive. Please place trees in the dumpsters.

Curbside Pickup: Residents can place Christmas trees curbside for recycling by 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Saturday, Jan. 11. (Trees placed curbside on other garbage collection days will be put in the landfill and not recycled.) If the tree is taller than 5 feet, please cut it in half.

Mulch from the recycled trees will be available for residents to pick up at the two drop-off locations Jan. 6 through 19, while supplies last. Please bring your own container and shovel to load the mulch. Questions can be directed to the NRH Neighborhood Services Department at 817-427-6650.
