Departmental Weekly Update
Thank You For Your Service!

Captain David Meyer and Fire Lieutenant Daniel Farkas retired from the Department this week. 

Capt. Meyer started his career with the Brown Deer Fire Department July 10, 1992 and finished his career as Captain of Station 84 in Whitefish Bay.

Lieutenant Farkas began his career with the Glendale Fire Department February 1, 1993 and finished his career assigned to Station 85 in Bayside. 

Both will be honored at a ceremony on Saturday December 21 at 8 AM at the fire station in Brown Deer. On behalf of the entire Department, we wish you well in your retirement and hope to see you often!
Station 83 Remodel Update

Absolute Construction began demolition in non-occupied portions of the building and the south apparatus bay this past week. The Foundation for the small apparatus bay addition on the northeast side of the building was also built this week. 

Additionally, the exterior, free-standing garage was demolished and underground utility work was started by the subcontractor. The temporary housing unit was delivered on Thursday December 19. Set-up and relocation will occur over the next three days. Once crews move out of the building, asbestos abatement will begin next week.
Scholarship Opportunity

The Wisconsin Security Association (WISA) is once again awarding one $1,500 scholarship award to a deserving son/daughter of an  active-duty police department member and one $1,500 scholarship award to a son/daughter of an active-duty fire department member. Since 2010 WISA has awarded $28,000 in scholarships.
 
Winners will be announced in March and an award ceremony will be held in May to honor them. Their pictures will also be proudly displayed on our website and in our quarterly newsletter. For more information go to  https://wiesa.org/about/youth-scholarship-information/.

Weekly Update
  • Department leadership held annual meetings with all personnel this past week to discuss goals, activities and expectations for 2020.
  • A fire at Motel 6 in Glendale caused approximately $100,000 in damage on Tuesday December 17. Parts of the facility were able to be re-occupied after the fire occurred. 
  • The Fire Commission met on Tuesday December 17 and took the following action:
    • Approved the protocol to promote an Assistant Chief. The posting of the position announced on December 18.
    • Reviewed and approved completion of probationary periods of six members.
Milwaukee Wave First Responders Appreciation Day Deals

The Milwaukee Wave Soccer Team wants to show their appreciation to area first responders by offering ticket deals for their First Responder Appreciation Game on Sunday January 12. Click here for more information.
