Departmental Weekly Update
Promotions

The following members were promoted this week. Congratulations!

  • Battalion Chief John Maydak to Assistant Chief
  • EMS Lieutenant Kevin Bonnell to Captain.
  • Firefighter/Paramedic Robert Jones to EMS Lieutenant
Capt. Bonnell and Lt. Jones were sworn in at a ceremony on February 11. Assistant Chief Maydak was sworn in at the Fire Commission Meeting on February 10. A formal swearing in ceremony for AC Maydak will be held at a later date.

Members Recognized By Commendation

Lt. Ryan Bialk, HEO Brian Sayeg, FF/PM Scott Smith, FF/PM Kenneth Lamas and FF/PM Paul Franzowiak were recognized with a Company Citation this week for their actions at a recent medical call where a man stopped breathing and lost pulses. The crew revived the patient and he was discharged from the hospital recently. Nice work!
Weekly Update
  • The Fire Commission met this week and took the following action at it's meeting:
    • Approved the promotion of Battalion Chief John Maydak to Assistant Chief. Assistant Chief Maydak will be assigned as Assistant Chief of Support Services.
    • Approved the promotion of EMS Lieutenant Kevin Bonnell to Captain. Captain Bonnell will be assigned as Captain of Fire Station 84 in Whitefish Bay.
    • Approved the promotion of Firefighter/Paramedic Robert Jones to EMS Lieutenant. Lt. Jones will be the EMS Lieutenant assigned to Green Shift.
    • Approved the Promotion Protocol and Reading List for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator.
    • Gave final approval for hiring of nine new firefighters in March.
  • Five recent retirees were presented with their badges and helmets as retirement gifts at the promotional ceremony held this week. Best wishes to David Meyer, Dan Farkas, Mark Stampfl, Marcus Looker and Jeff Myszewski and thank you for your service!
  • Baker Tilly auditors were on site this week doing work on the Department's 2019 financial audit.
  • Members trained on active assailant/active shooter responses this week.
  • Chief Whitaker presented information to the Milwaukee County Intergovernmental Cooperation Council on a EMS Contract with Milwaukee County and mutual aid agreements.
  • Staff continues to work on preparation for the Department's accreditation site visit later this year.
  • The Department assisted the Cedarburg Fire Department with a structure with this past Sunday.
