Departmental Weekly Update
Weekly Summary
  • The Fire Commission met Monday evening and established an eligibility list for promotions to the rank of Fire Lieutenant. Seven members were placed on the eligibility list. In other activity, the Commission:
    • Extended the 2017 EMS Lieutenant List
    • Approved two new Firefighter Interns following interviews
  • The Board of Directors meeting was cancelled this week.
  • Staff has been working with a representative of the Insurance Services Office (ISO) to complete an updated ISO Rating for the Department. ISO assists property insurers in determining insurance rates by grading fire departments.
  • Quarterly Company Officer Meetings were held this week Tuesday and Wednesday. Extensive discussion was held on operational deployment strategies for the future and cultural issues in the organization. Company Officers should be providing a meeting summary to their companies.
  • North Shore Fire/Rescue crews evacuated several homes in Fox Point on November 8 due to a natural gas leak. A contractor installing a sewer main struck the line during construction. All residents were able to return to their homes once the leak was secured.
  • The Department responded to two incidents this past week where high levels of carbon monoxide were located in buildings due to furnace/boiler malfunctions. The Department continues to provide public education on the hazards presented by carbon monoxide.
