Departmental Weekly Update
Thank You For Your Service!

The Department honored Heavy Equipment Operator Mark "The Bump" Stampfl who retired from the Department this past week after thirty years of service to the North Shore.

Mark started his career with the City of Glendale Fire Department and was here when the consolidation of the seven departments occurred. Thank you Mark for your dedicated service!
Weekly Summary

  • Great work by Captain Dan Tyk, HEO Jason Katz and FF/PM Robert Jones on making the winning pizza at the 2019 California Pizza Kitchen - Bayshore Fire vs Police Pizza Cook-Off. The Glendale Police Officers put up great competition, but the fire department pulled out the win (again ;)!
  • The Board of Directors met on September 10 at Bayside Village Hall. The Board of Directors Meeting Packet can be seen here. The Board adopted a 2020 Operating and Capital Budget at the meeting. The full budget document can be viewed here. The Board took the following other actions:
    • Approved 2020 Fee for Service Schedule
    • Tabled adoption of Levy Limit Exemption Resolution for 2020 until October Meeting.
    • Heard a report on bids on the remodel of Fire Station 83 in Shorewood and a projected timeline for the project. The bids can be seen in the Board Packet.
  • Station 85 attended the Bayside Village Picnic on September 7. The event had a great turnout and the firefighters were able to meet residents, talk about fire and life safety efforts and display our equipment and vehicles.
  • The Departments Community Stakeholder Input Survey will close to responses at the end of the day Friday September 13.
  • One person had to be extricated from a vehicle involved in a crash on N. 60 St. in Brown Deer on September 5. The person was transported to a hospital.
Station Construction Updates

  • Shorewood Station 83: Construction bids were open on September 5. The bids are favorable for the project moving forward. Staff is working with the Village of Whitefish Bay on financing for the project. It is expected the Board of Directors will consider financing options and construction contracts contingent on completion of financing at it's October Meeting. Bids are good for 120 days from the date of bid opening.
  • Whitefish Bay Station 84: Phase 1 of the remodel project continues. Masons are completing interior wall work on the northwest side of the building. Electricians are installing new electrical service throughout the building also this week. With input from all parties, the Department has moved forward with obtaining a temporary housing unit that has been placed on the site so the firefighters don't need to remain in the living areas of the building during the remainder of construction. Occupying the living areas during construction was challenging for the firefighters for several reasons, but in large part due to the large amount of construction dust and noise in the living area. The temporary housing unit will provide a cleaner living area for the crews. Next week, the construction team will start working in the current day room/kitchen area of the station.
