The Department continues to navigate the COVID-19 Vaccine nearly one year after it initially hit the United States. 72 Department members have received their first COVID-19 Vaccine and 51 of the 72 have received their second vaccine. The remainder of the members who have received their first vaccine and already scheduled to receive the second vaccine in accordance with guidelines.

As members have receive their second vaccine, the Department has received a number of questions about the use of masks and quarantine procedures moving forward. The Department has developed a Frequently Asked Questions document available at this link to help answers these questions.

A dehumidifier fire (picture to left) activated a fire sprinkler system in an unoccupied church in River Hills this past week. The fire was rapidly extinguished by the sprinkler system. The building sustained minimal damage. Check your dehumidifiers to see whether they are on the recall list https://greedehumidifierrecall.com/ProductEntry.aspx.

An overloaded power strip was the cause of a small fire in an office at Motel 6 on N Port Washington Rd in Glendale on February 7.

One person was transported by paramedics to Froedtert Trauma Center after a roll-over accident on W. Brown Deer Rd in River Hills on February 8.

The Department provided coverage at fire stations in the Town of Brookfield due to a large fire on February 6 and in Racine County while area firefighters attended the funeral of a firefighter on February 10.

The Board of Directors met February 9. The meeting packet is available on line. The Board recommended approval of a single/multi year capital budget to the seven member communities, approved the purchase of a fire engine from Pierce Manufacturing contingent on approval of the single/multi-year capital budget, heard a report on options for remodeling/rebuilding of Fire Station 82 in Glendale from Chief Whitaker and approved an annual transfer of funds to the Department's Retiree Health Insurance Stabilization Fund.

The Fire Commission met on February 8 and approved the completion of probationary periods for Assistant Chief Maydak, Captain Bonnell and Lieutenant Jones. Congratulations to all of them.

Finance Director Harrigan is completing the 2020 Fiscal Audit with Baker Tilly this week. Baker Tilly staff, who would traditionally work on site, are working remote to complete the audit this year due to COVID-19.
