North Star District   Newsletter
June 2017

We need you!  In order for your unit to use the online applications you will need to update your pin.

We will show you how!

Committee Chairs - We invite you to do some research and make sure your Pack, Crew or Troop has an updated PIN.  What does that mean?  I will take you through the steps to solve this mystery.
1.  So when you go to this page (

2.  Input the zip for your Unit.
3.  You should see this information (next to red arrow)...Click on your unit.  If you can not find your unit then you will need to update your PIN.  A link to instructions is below in number 4.

4.  If the popup window looks like this...

...with an "Apply Now" button, it means your unit has activated it's PIN and an application can be filled out.  Your good to go.

4.  If you see this page...with no links to "Apply Now"... will need to activate your PIN.  The Online Registration Guide Book has instructions on how to do that.

Online application?  Where do I start?

Put in the Zip Code for the Unit you would like to attend.  Find the Unit from the list on the Right.  Click on the "Show Unit" button.  Click on the "Apply Now" button and follow the instructions from there.

If there is not an apply button (It's blue) you are not able to apply online at this time.  Fill out a paper application and give to your Committee Chair.  Let them know you tried to fill out the application online but was unable to because the unit PIN was not activated yet.  We hope to have all Units updated and ready to accept online applications as soon as possible.

If you are a new leader applying online, don't forget to quickly do your YPT (Youth Protection Training) on your account.

Enter your service hours online

Our District Service hours are low and we are thinking it is because our units are not reporting their service hours.  We know you are busy doing service in our community.  Larry Simon has made a video on how to report your services hours.  Click HERE to see that video.

Cub Scout Day Camp

Cub day camp is organized by the council and is a one-to-five day program for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts. Day camp does not include overnight activities, but can be conducted during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Day camps are based on themes and include fun activities in nature, shooting sports, games, aquatics, and crafts. Day camp is lots of fun!

How can I participate as a parent?
Parents are needed to make every camp a big success! Enjoy the Day Camp with your Cub Scout. Unit leaders and parents will be asked to guide dens as leaders at camp.

The Las Vegas Area Council is now providing Scoutbook for all of our units.  If you are not already using this great resource please start!  You can track all things Scouting with Scoutbook.  Parents are able to access their Scouts records from any device.  Scoutbook will help you communicate with all the members of your unit.  Many of the tasks a unit does will be moving to the Scoutbook platform.  If you have not gotten your subscription code please contact Nancy Hill at the Scout Office.

Modifications to Cub Scout Requirements

Lion Program

Wednesday, June 21st at 6:30 PM

Lion Cubs is a program for 5-6 year old Kindergarten boys. This fall will be the second year of this approved Pilot Program.

If your pack wishes to be a part of this exciting Pilot Program of the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America, this is a mandatory training that needs to be attended by your pack.

Also - all Cub Scout packs that will be participating in the Lion Pilot will need to designate a leader that will only be registered as a Lion Coordinator (they cannot be the Committee Chairman, Cubmaster, Den Leader, etc). They can only be registered as a Lion Coordinator in the pack.

Our district has 6 new packs that offer the new Lion program.   More Info
