Happy Summer Everyone!

I hope you have all had a relaxing and enjoyable summer so far. The "summer"
Library is a vibrant place offering a variety of engaging programs and learning
opportunities.

On the hot summer days our staff is feeling energized to share and connect more
with you all. This month's newsletter will provide a preview of the activities that
will be coming your way in August and early September. Don't forget to get your
copies of required summer reading books for the students in your life.

North Wales 150th Anniversary
Incorporation Day - August 20, 2019

Ring your bells and blow your whistles and help us celebrate the 150 th Anniversary of the Incorporation of North Wales Borough! The fire whistle will sound at 6:30 PM, then join in as the church bells will ring for approximately 5 minutes, ending with the police sirens. Make plans to attend the concert in Weingartner Park at 6:45 PM featuring the Montgomery County Jazz Band. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a summer evening in the park. 

Don't forget to purchase 150th Anniversary Commemorative items at Borough Hall.

On Tuesday,  September 10 at 2:00 and 7:00 representatives from Acts Retirement-Life  Communities will be presenting the program, Seeking Direction in Retirement Living,  including help with the questions below:

  • Questions to ask when visiting communities.
  • What are your options?
  • Understanding the different contracts.
  • How do you find the right fit.
  • Amenities and Financial benefits.

Techgirlz2
Saturday, August 10, 11 am - 2 pm

JavaScript is used to make apps, interactive websites, web games, and more. In this workshop, you will learn the basic concepts of JavaScript, learn to talk directly to your website, and create your own JavaScript programs.

STEM Summer Fun
Saturday, August 10, 3 pm - 4:30 pm

Fun DIY and hands-on STEM  (Science, Technology, Engineering,  Mathematics) activities for kids. Each  activity is paired with specific STEM  lessons and ideas. For ages 9 to 13. Register here
Cruise into Kindergarten 
August 12 & 18, 10:30 am - 11:30 am

For children ages 4-6, entering Kindergarten. This class will be focused on kindergarten readiness and early literacy. Children can attend one or both.  Register here
Animal Adaptation
Wednesday, August 14 at 11 am

Webbed feet, wings, camouflage and quills are all unique features. This program, featuring live animals, will teach children how animals use these unique features to live and thrive. 

No registration required. For ages 3 and over
Terrarium Basics
Tuesday, August 20 at 10 am

Master Gardener Judy Groben will be  leading this hands-on program that  introduces children to a mini history of  terrariums and how they work. They  will learn how to properly construct a  closed terrarium as they make a small  terrarium to take home.

Register at the Library for this event. 
Cinderella Story Time
Tuesday, August 20 at 10 am

Special guest Cinderella will be  reading books to the children  for story time! Join us. No registration required. 
Read to the Horse
Wednesday, August 28, 10 am - 12 noon

Children can register to read a  book to a trained therapy horse.

Playaway Launchpad for College-Bound Students

Preloaded tablets feature complete interactive test prep for the SAT and ACT courses.  Launchpads help students gain the knowledge and confidence to achieve higher scores for college admission and to earn scholarship and grant money for tuition.  Playaway Launchpads can be checked out for a week and renewed for another week if no one is waiting for the device.
